Can't tell if you're serious, so I'll ask on the off chance you are. What does "evil" mean? Or are you just saying that the entire tech industry is evil?

Thanks for the recommendation. The book I referenced discusses both the early hydrodynamic model maxwell used for electrostatics and a rather bizarre (and intriguing) mechanical model involving flywheels and gears. Can't comment on whe

If people are interested in the historical developments of EM theory and the various physical analogies maxwell used, I'd highly recommend "Faraday, Maxwell, and the Electromagnetic Field" by Forbes and Mahon. It has a intere

Yeah, it's impressive because it's differentiating the language - it doesn't require putting 'tf.' in front of everything and hoping tf has the function you want.

There's a reason I said "that directory" not "that file." Cutting through the sarcasm, here's some Volta info: https://download.nvidia.com/open-gpu-doc/Display-Ref-Manuals... As reported o

Re: business point of view See the other link currently on the front page: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2018/12/03/physx-high-fidelity... . Gives some ideas of the rationale.

Why not just leave it at ~55 characters? 50 characters is not a hard limit. See the Linux commits, for example: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/lin...

Calm down. If you want lower performance in return for better reliability and security, just turn on the mitigations and/or increase the refresh rate.

It is definitely worth trying as an experiment, but the discussion around wasmjit doesn't seem like it's a research project. Its worth noting that this has in many senses already been extensively research. This was a significant p

I see a future where the npm-style ecosystem develops with the JIT running inside the kernel, so you end up running a "trusted" application ends up running a whole lot of untrusted code via dependencies. Usually process isolation

Right, but that effect is pretty much unrelated to the characteristic impedance of free space and doesn't mean that vacuum is not an insulator.

I've asked this before, but I'm going to ask it again (sorry for the repetition). What makes this sandbox different from previous sandboxes (JVM, browsers, etc) that makes proponents sufficiently confident to put it in the kernel?

That paper describes two very different attacks from the 2014 paper. The old news was being able to get memory with stale data from previous processes.

Right. I see now that I was unclear in that second part - I should have written something like "just because EM waves can propagate in vacuum does not mean you can induce a current density in vacuum." Of course EM waves can induce

By itself, that isn't particularly impressive - all that requires is a decent LO + mixer. Make sure you aren't confusing frequency range with instantaneous bandwidth.

True, but not really an answer to the question. Unlike semiconductor devices, there is only one "kind" of vacuum tube. A push-pull amplifier with vacuum tubes requires an anti phase generator before the high and low side drivers,

It is essential to distinguish between characteristic impedances (of free space or other) and resistances. Although both are real values measured in ohms, characteristic impedances are non-dissipative. Just because EM waves can propagate in
