That it incentivizes human trafficking and crime is pure hyperbole. Also turns out that the barrier to entry for crypto is lower in the 3rd world than you might think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvHN0MEBoZo

I'm not sure I agree, but it will be hard to convince you if you're coming from a place where you think crypto is scammy/deceptive to begin with. Let me assume you're willing to suspend your disbelief: I do agree that so

Yes. Millions of dollars worth of ETH are transacted through NFT platforms every day. Whether you personally consider that useful is up to you, but people are using it.

Yes, it's used heavily in many Ethereum (or other crypto) dAPPs.

Interesting. I imagine you are probably a few years older than me. I was too young to have that thought back then... but maybe I would now.

As a 90s kid, I thought the internet would be more censorship resistant and less corporatized than it is today.

Stay in the high paying job, save, retire, do hobbies. Alternative: Work really hard for almost no money. If it goes well, you can make close to your engineering salary again as a founder. If you "win the lottery" you get an exit

If the "remote work" future is here, then this will just push people out further to the middle of nowhere instead of suburbans towns.

You're right about that for the most part, but my point is that NFTs are still being bought and sold on a daily basis. Just because there's not an over-hyped multi-million dollar sale every day, doesn't mean "the bubble

This is really not it for the most part it. The thing is there are a bunch of people that are really really rich and they're creating this NFT economy powered by cryptocurrency. The high ticket NFT sales are a way of shoveling tens of

Just because people aren't buying cat memes for millions of dollars every single day doesn't mean NFT sales aren't going strong... they are. A sotheby's auction just went live today for a curated collection of NFTs. The

Honestly, it's something that you can just "do". I know not everyone has much appetite for speculative, unpaid work, but that's the lowest rung of the ladder you can start. Bug bounties for example... if you go deep into

From what I've been told, suicide is often impulsive, and when it's not impulsive it's an escape from some kind of psychological or physical agony - like you're in a burning building and jump out the window. If you'

"It seems like, if I buy an NFT at $10000 and then sell it a month later for $9000, some of that $9000 goes to the creator of the NFT and not to me." Yes that's correct. That makes it very appealing for creators like artists.

I'm not talking about literal royalties. If I have an item that I buy new (or used) and it's not a depreciating asset, and I sell it, then I owe income tax or capital gains, don't I? And then when the new owner sells it a few

Behind the scenes the NFT is just a smart contract standard. The royalty isn't really baked into the contract itself, but the platform that's using to exchange it.... So lots of projects with this perpetual royalty might get moved
