There is a bit of a statistical artifact here: the number of person-days of people with both doses in the UK is very small during this period. Most adults had no doses or one dose for most of this period. Vaccination is still great and I en

I don't eat any animal products and still enjoy food immensely. Enjoyment of food is based on circumstance and is relative: I lived in Nepal for a few years and saw farmers enjoy plates of rice and lentils more than most Westerners wou

55% reduction in methanse is good, but its still a destructive and inefficient way to produce protein. Wish people would give up on beef and look into alternatives.

I don't think it matters how the payment is made. Trump's former CFO is now facing charges for having his grandkid's tuition fees paid, but not declared as compensation. It's a bit different, but comparable.

Is the issue higher education (colleges/universities) or higher education finance? Sounds like the latter.

I think you're engaging in some wishful thinking with grass-fed carbon-negative cows. The climate impact is from methane they produce from digestion, regardless of the food source.

Would be great to see a link on this. When I search, most results suggest the impact of grass-fed cattle is no different, e.g: https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/10/grass-fed-cows-won-t...

Doesn't do much to help with climate change though, which is a much more serious issue. Sounds more like a rationalization for continuing to drink dairy milk.

Very useful resource, but I wonder if emissions (kg) takes into account methane emissions from cows, which tend to have a stronger warming effect than CO2. There are conversions from methane to equivalent CO2, so hopefully that's there

That's a good point, although I am not sure whether the "six times" claim was based on the first cycle or the subsequent cycles (partly because the authors didn't make it themselves). Even if subsequent cycles are 1/

They also mention a rapid drop-off in capacity after the first cycle in the article itself (3600 mAh to 1200 mAh). The main point the authors are making is that the discharge process is rechargeable rather than a single discharge. The press

Really interesting to compare with the publication itself: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03757-z They don't mention six times more charge anywhere. Rather, the novelty is that it they make a discharge

The press release is naturally all positive spin, but hints at: [X] it suffers from too few recharge cycles. They mention 200 cycles, whereas 1000+ is common for li-ion.

This is a good point. I bought a used bike for about $100 online and have now done about 5K KM using a cheap conversion kit online, with minimal maintenance. However, I was lucky and also bought a low power kit (250W, while 1000W kits are

Interesting, did you follow Twitter's recent acquisition of Scroll? They might be moving into this space themselves.

This is a good idea and I wish you well. I would encourage you to think of gender in your marketing. Unfortunately there is a lot of sexism in home repairs, and I think many women would benefit from your service. I (a male) have several tim

If enough people buy, then the supply of parts could be independent of the company itself, as third-party manufacturers would probably see an opportunity.

It they stopped overnight it would be a disaster, but if they gradually reduced output over time then alternatives would come online. They would seem expensive, but demand would also adjust and life would change to adapt quite comfortably,

I found it unusable on Firefox 81 (including with No addons). Clicks don't work at all - seems to work fine on Chromium. I suggest testing on a broader range of browsers. Edit: It's just my version, not an issue with the site.

Not much discussion on this. Presumably Twitter sells a subscription service that includes access to news sites through Scroll. They'll have to significantly increase the news services offered though.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as an "apolitical space" - it is kind of like trying to remain stationary on a moving train. Even if you don't discss contentious issues, political parties, etc, you are still part of s
