I used a local version of this type of product in a city I used to live in. Main positive is as you mentioned, food waste smell is gone, and no rodents/animals in the trash either inside or outside.

Great advice. Personally I think this applies to many long term ambitious, and ambiguous projects, not just a PHD. I had to learn this the hardway as well and now I really enjoy my work in a sustainable way.

I don't necessarily think his calling out no "real" 10x engineers is the main point of the statement. It's more that people who aren't good or are struggling to produce software are more numerous and should have mo

I'm glad you articulated exactly what I was thinking while watching this video. It felt like lousy statistics the whole time. There are lies, there are damned lies, and then there are statistics.

One of the things I've always wondered about, and I don't know if there is a good scientific answer for it (haven't looked deeply), is if you end up committing to running 5 to 10 minutes a day will you end up turning into the

I use system76 pop os as a main driver for my desktop. There is a learning curve to do everything and i do occasionally switch to windows for some games. I am a senior engineer as well. I think the biggest thing holding linux desktops back

There are a few places around the US where I feel like this idea generally doesn't hold up, However I totally understand what you mean and it is the truth for many people living in the US. My examples would be communities situated near

I think there are different groups of people for each one of those cases and lumping them all together as programmers is a bit of a generalization. I get your sentiment that the cases conflict, but I don't think it's the same pers

I don't think that because a computer uses 1000W of power it would produce 1000W of heat though. I think if that were true then there could be no computation done since all the energy of the electrons would be converted to heat. I'

There's a neat trick you can do with songs that don't have much reverb. If you load a track. Clone the channel into a second one and then just "flip" the wave form it will remove all the vocals. Not perfect but it's

As far as I know (which isnt much) Global warming isn't really about heat released in systems. It's about its inability to leave the earth due to greenhouse effects. While it is a concern if we produce a lot of extra heat, I think

This is a deceptively insightful comment. At least it wasn't clear to me for a while. If you want to start a business it can definitely have an open-source element to it, but that's just it. The open-source part is just one piece

Yeah I love the idea of bug bounties, however there is this issue created when the provider cannot offer the most competitive price for bounties. It's no secret that nation states will pay more than Apple will for vulnerabilities.
