This is "the worst part of Jenkins is that it works". You shouldn't judge a developer tool by just what is possible to do with the tool. After all, with a little turing-completeness it is possible to do anything with anyt

To illustrate "build build steps" with an example: I used to work on a project that had 1000s of Javascript files, that we compiled into a dozen or so webpack bundles to deploy. Not every webpack bundle depended on every file howe

Any stories to tell about compiler analogies being taken too far in web apps?

Wrong. I've been a hiring manager at a place with >100 engineers and a recruiting team and - I still read every resume - I ignored the keywords - I pretty much valued exactly what the author does.

Also, appeals to authority is "person X says Y, person X has a PhD, therefore Y". There is no "Person X" here. The authority, if there is one, is a mysterious authority possessed by the form of the argument itself. Or, y

Hmm, medical scientists experiment on rats and then make medical predictions about humans based on analogy from rats to humans. At least, I classify this as an analogy, and wouldn't forbid analogies from having predictive power. Re: &q

This is a fair criticism. I think, if I had stopped at "hey look, Will Larson's model in this post wasn't realistic, this proves there's a bunch of people out there being mystical about system dynamics", this would

That's pretty silly. What "shared resources" am I contending with previous developers for? It's not like "oops, I can't deploy to the QA environment now, it's in use by somebody who left in 2015" Also
