I think the main problem with the brain simulation approach is that we don't yet have a really good model of how the brain actually works.

If you want to learn how to program, surely you would go asking the software engineering community how to do it? But rarely do we pay attention to how the people who're serious about reading and writing say you're actually suppose

Sure, that's the way you'd think you have to do it if your resources about this primarily come from HN. But there's whole different bag of tricks from the purer side of math which those who've decided to follow the data

"When your first sentence is false, so do is the rest of the article !" Not necessarily.

Minor comment, but isn't the whole trope of starting an article on "we need to do X more" with "famous person A did X, and famous person B did X" a bit played out?

I have such déjà vu about this article. The weirdest part is that it feels like the reason it is familiar is because I had a dream about it once.

I once told my non-technical friend about the hypewars and giant refactorizations that websites go through every few years and she couldn't believe it. Websites have hardly changed from the users perspective for like the past five year

Off topic, but this is why I like HN. All my bullshit opinions is pointed out and not just politely ignored.

I always found that people who prefer craftsman over engineer are those who're afraid of math (no offense).

I like Hickey and Clojure. But part of me feels sad and pessimistic when I think him and his project. The stuff he was working on at the beginning, although new to most people who were exposed to it, wasn't new to the software engineer

Do you remember which biography? I have a strange feeling I've heard this story before but I also feel I might have dreamt it up.

I like these guys' perseverance. But part of me can't stop the feeling of sadness that they've spent a better part of a decade working on it, perhaps the best years of their lives. I know perseverance and failure is seen as g

Really cool! I love how more and more mathematical ideas (like translation invariance) are seeping into the programming community. I suspect that this will have a bigger and longer lasting impact on software engineering as a result of the c

The problem essentially reduces to finding the roots of a system of polynomials. This article suggests solving the system basically with Newtons method (generalized to higher dimensions). But an alternative approach is to use Groebner bases
