Simplicity for whom? I agree that on high traffic lists email should be kept to plain text, but for your daily business/social use it's far simple to format an email with html or rich text than it is to rely on ascii decorations for text ma

What I'd really like is for a mail client to find a way to make inline responses simple and intuitive, to the point that your average user would think to do it.

I can't find the specific justifications but I believe it's all described in the GNOME HIG: http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/ Not to say it's necessarily correct, but if you really want to dig into their reasoning, that's where it

Far, far too much emphasis has been put on invention/innovation/originality lately. Doing something well is (generally) more important than doing something new. IMO, anyway.

I've heard enough "cannot reproduce" reports to suspect it's a minority of devices, still that's a lot of people affected. My suspicion is that there is a coating process that is failing in some cases, which would mean it could probably be

If OSX 10.7 is as well received as the iPhone 4 then OSX will do just fine. Not every update needs to be revolutionary.

Not to get all tangental, but these are reasons why something like iOS is the probable future of consumer computing. There is so much crap that people deal with on a day to day basis with computers that they should never even have to know

What hardware did you have issues with? Not that I necessarily recommend the hackintosh route, but if you had 10.5 running, 10.6 should run as well. I had my system moved to 10.6 within a week of it's release.

Let me help your imagination: Nobody would give a shit if this was any other company. You'd get maybe 1/10th of the stories and 1/100th of the up-votes and comments around the web. Maybe.

I'm a little rusty on this stuff (haven't messed with it for ~5 years) but IIRC you have the ICCCM specification and some non-standard but well adopted extensions[1] that define how a window manager communicates with the X server, and in th

I hesitate to go down this road, but what features do you think originated in GNOME and found their way into OSX? I think you're giving quite a bit of credit where it is not due.
