I know this is HN but the first reaction to a broken system should be to fix it, not build a business on top of it.

To reduce the storage needs, I think most people could be flexible with their power usage during emergencies, high prices or bad (local) production. For example, I can typically postpone big-screen movie nights, doing the hoovering/lau

Pumped hydro does not need to consume water, it can pump the same water over and over. In some places, it can use saline water from the ocean. The EU report says hydro power can help agriculture e.g. if big reservoirs are built and on dry y

That's part of the point: pumped storage (and other solutions) can be used even though the climate changes. Batteries won't have to be the main storage solution. Another part: over-provisioning does not increase the costs much as

Existing hydro is able to fill in for some of the storage needs, and pumping water up the dam will be one type of large-scale storage that can be built. See pumped-storage hydroelectricity: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Sure, it's a bit weird but not that weird as they have a huge codebase in a specific domain. Also, they still end up using a lot of Haskell code (and semantics) although they write in a thin layer of "DSL" on top of Haskell
