Sometimes, you have to deal with closed-source and legacy software for which there is no sufficient support in the application. This proxy can help boost the performance of such applications.

Slightly off topic, but not by much, question. Is it possible, with the recent AI advancements, to create 16:9 4K versions of TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY?

I wonder why none of the trillion-dollar club members with "infinite" money, e.g., MSFT or AAPL, are building bleeding-edge fabs in locations that are geopolitically more stable than Taiwan. If TSMC tanks, then these companies wil

I don't know. All that I read from them over and over again is that they celebrate themselves and that they made the right decisions. What I really would like to read are more detailed writings about their challenges, especially legal

You can use the TimescaleDB PostgreSQL extension. It works really well and has a high compression rate for time series data, such as metrics. It can also downsample data. I have also tried InfluxDB, but you have to rewire your mental model

I wouldn't necessarily call it a bubble. There has been a breakthrough in AI recently, and now we see the new companies following that. Of course, 95% or so will fail, and the invested money is gone, but that happens basically with eve

I don't know if Musl is worth the hassle if one is only interested in the reduced size. I see the point if you have everything statically linked, but with dynamic linking, you have glibc sitting there just once with a few MB, and you d

I think the question boils down on how to stop enshittification. Because if we were to recreate all the enshittified platforms, what would stop them from becoming enshittified anew? We must understand the mechanism of enshittification and f

I think that also has to do with the amount of complexity. Henri Poincaré is often said to have been the last man who knew all of math. Today, you need research teams across the world working on a very narrow topic to make tiny progress ite

I have yet to see the bubble. Where are the triple-digit P/E values for vast amounts of tech stocks? Where are the companies nobody knew before (like pets.com in 2000) but ranking at the top? Where are the daily IPOs popping out of now

I actually have both - a T480s from work and a T480 as my personal device. I do recommend the T480 since it has dual RAM slots, and the maximum RAM for the T480s is 24GB. Plus, the battery can be swapped out. The only things I like better i

I like the Thinkpad T-Series. I own a T430 (equipped with a i5 quad-core processor and Full-HD IPS display), T450s, T480s, and T14. I can confirm that even a decade-old T430, after some upgrades, is still sufficient for using firefox + term

I would like to take a stance on one aspect of this argument, namley costs. If you design it smart than your application can scale both ways not just up, but also down, even down to zero in some cases. So as soon your app is not used anymor
