I've had almost every system of the previous generations. I'm not planning on getting either the PS4 or the Xbone as long as they require the silly subscription for key content (e.g. if you want Titanfall [a multiplayer only game]

Is it a licensing issue or that they need a whole bunch of machines to install various components?

Tangential question: how do I learn about ERP software? I went to a strong CS school but this wasn't covered. I don't think I even know anyone who knows this stuff. - regular HN reader.

Not true. I'm not a big shot but I've turned them down. Had two rejections from them in the past .. don't want to waste my time.

I think what is missing from the discussion so far is german work ethic. I am in awe of it. During work hours, people work. That's it. But when they are off, they are off. This strikes me as balance. There is a BBC documentary called &

1) This is wicked cool. 2) The feat itself is impressive. Sucks they have to "sell" it with the malaria application. I guess science has almost always been like that.

Correct for the most part. With some exceptions. I've seen a bright kid from Italy act very despondent. He was convinced there was no way to have a decent career in his country. I gave him a pep talk but it did make me wonder: - are we

Studying history is not a useless endeavor. Taking a 100K loan to do it is.

Do you use your naked eyes or do you have any tool recommendations? I don't see YAML going away so I'd better deal :)

To be specific, JSON syntax is a subset of YAML version 1.2. However, I hate YAML with a passion. It is worse than XML in my books. I can usually read JSON fine. I can also read XML in many cases. For the life of me, I just can't read

This isn't about QM per say, but may I suggest you read Richard Feynman's book: "Surely you're joking? Mr. Feynman!" It was a hugely entertaining read. Be warned: there is some content in the book that may be a bit

I am going to say the same thing in a different way: "The satellites in the image are not to scale, and this makes the image misleading." Was that so hard?

I disagree. Day to day concerns are exactly what turn into 5-10 year issues. Non-software people get shocked when they hear you make over 100K and can't save much. I do agree that part of it is that what we take for being a normal stan

Charging to use the restroom urgently gets close to violating the rules of civil society in my books. Yes, I know city governments do it in many big cities. Yes, I know it is the norm in many parts of Europe. But still ... I've had a f

Are you keeping up with the Paho mailing list? I've used mqtt for a project in the past. It worked really well but I didn't have very high messaging load for that application.

All I see are a few perf graphs that show a 20% runtime reduction in a few cases and > 50% reduction in one case. This gives me no insight whatsoever what is going on under the hood. Is it that for these dozen or so benchmarks, we end up

Can't reply to the f2f's snarky comment. I'm not saying I don't know how to change the value. I want to understand why the designers made the decision to do so.

I've been hearing that the Canadian real estate market is where the US market was in 2007 since ... 2007! I keep hearing about the imminent condo crash in Toronto for years. As someone in his mid-30s looking to settle down, I don'
