Curious what you use as a Terminal replacement in Windows? I tried cygwin a few years ago and it was painful. Windows Powershell isn't standard enough for me.

Me too. Kinda annoying I paid 1500 to be a beta tester for a product that never properly launched. Explorer ... yeah.

Agreed. I got Google glass for the hangout feature. A few months after I got it, they removed the feature entirely. That feature was one way it was different than a Go-pro - and they took out! The explanation was crazy - "not many user

Yes .. it is possible. I may be getting the name wrong but I saw a demo from Ben Shneiderman's research group a few years ago where they did every possible statistical analysis on pairs of variables to look for high correlation. To the

I'm in Canada right now and was puzzled why I couldn't find it. Shesh ... this sucks.

In 2000 proper, the crazy hip thing in the Java world was J2EE. Seriously ... being proficient in Enterprise and Session beans got one a 100K+ job back when that was a big thing.

As someone who is rapidly becoming an old-timer, I have to say I miss the old days of Make. It was everywhere and had weird quirks. But you didn't need to spend too much thought on it. These days, I see projects using Gradle, Maven, An

Why did you stop? Surely, the 2.x vs 3.x schism didn't cause this?

Genuine question: how do companies/teams that run services deal with peak vacation periods? E.g. Christmas holidays. Even if everyone wants to take the last two weeks of the year off, you have to have someone keeping the lights on. Als

Brings back memories. I recall learning to write from memory the 40+ line win32 hello world from the Petzold bible. That's the way it was back then ... but you got super speed from it. Event loop was blazing fast. I discovered MFC a bi

Not sure why they are excluding older entrepreneurs (18-29 is the required age). I went to UofT, I'm in my mid-30s and in the Toronto area .. I get excluded from the whole Waterloo ecosystem, and programs such as this one. What I have

Good comment. For people in their mid-30s and young kids, I assume term life is a good option?

I'm surprised why this upsets you? You are making a fundamental assumption that price is somehow connected to input costs. This is not true for anything other than commodities. An experienced marketer was giving a talk in one of my biz

Total outsider and I felt very uncomfortable how the dirty laundry was being aired publicly. I don't get this new model of business in the Bay area. One person posts stuff online. Then someone posts something online as a rebuttal. Don&

I see a lot of negativity on this topic, but I for one am extremely excited about Alexis returning to Reddit in a more substantial way. I've been on Hacker New for a while (with different accounts) but have only recently started to use

I have the same question. I knew someone in their early 40s who had a heart attack recently. He seemed healthy otherwise - well ... he is borderline overweight compared to me. Why don't we have better diagnostics for this?

I've gotten to the final round twice with no offers from Google. They called me a few time since then and I've said no. I'm not sure how many older engineers are in the same boat but I too am "tired of trying to get in&q

I don't think that is correct. There are thousands of startups on AWS (an IAAS cloud) that don't run 10K node clusters. While they cost may be high, it is pay as you go. I have a rack full of computers at home and I still have som

You're right. I've followed instructables on how to do it (e.g. some cds and some foil). However, I am mesmerized by the beauty of some old school variable capacitors. Wish they still made 'em.

You know what electronic part is hard to find these days? Variable capacitors! At the caps needed to make radios. Sure, you can buy them in bulk or at ham fests, but I've found it frustrating as a hobbyist.

From the gif, I gather they are doing AR without fiduciary markers. Since the gif shows a hand that is moving while the elephant remains in place, they might be doing 3d surface construction (possibly in real-time). How off am I?
