Can you provide some links about that? Or an explanation? I am genuinely interested.

This guide is indeed opinionated and subjective and in many ways misses the point but the "don't use systemd" advice is among the on point ones. Still this is a minor issue for majority of users. Like most of this guide.

I think it's possible (and not impossibly hard) to overcome the security shortcomings of the language, but the real problem is persuading the ecosystem (starting with its leaders that design core libraries and infrastructure like npm)

This is terrible on so many levels. Why does npm execute scripts by default if they are not to be trusted? Why would anyone install some software via npm unless they are confident it isn't malicious? Why does npm use a single flag for

Looks amazing, but the fact that `make qemu` uses docker to run qemu and the readme almost (there is a warning about image size) fails to mention it is somewhat off-putting.

I loved this thing back when I was using Windows. Brings back good memories to hear about it again. (good memories of the IDE, not the OS)

I sincerely hope you are joking but I realize this mindset is quite common these days, so let me reiterate: Rust does not magically solve problems for you. Btrfs has a lot of issues and some of them may well be of the not possible in Rust s

The problem with btrfs is that it has quirks like that (and worse, much worse) all the time.

Yeah, image quality was what made us abandon the idea but before that I found it really troublesome to setup and use zxing to do anything at all.

In my experience it doesn't really work that well. I was trying to make a barcode scanner out of a raspberry pi with a camera module during a hackathon once. What an absolute nightmare.

The fact that makers of those websites are supposedly 'crypto' experts (and should as such probably not be completely ignorant of information security) makes the presence of such vulnerabilities in their websites more appalling th

Freenode is still very much alive these days. Lots of people want to use discord (or any other mainstream commercial chat service) for their programming communities. The problem with that are the enormous masses of people that use discord f

My favourite part of the bash(1) man page is it's BUGS section. Just the first sentence. Bash users should take a look at it from time to time.

Linux namespaces are quite flexible and aren't used just for docker style containerization. In some use cases having a shared user namespace makes sense. Docker just doesn't use the provided interface by default. Which is a shame

Does the jump in sbcl installs correspond to some event in sbcl history? Or is it just a consequence of something related to the popularity contest?

Sudo is supposed to give you flexibility - being able to perform some commands but not others and similar functionality. I think it achieves that _too_ well by being far too big and featureful. I prefer doas [1] - it gives the user some fle

This is bad, but the way things were going for the last few years with Red Hat gaining more and more importance in the general linux ecosystem something like that happening was just inevitable.

I'm sure many would happily put an end to Youtube-dl (and other such tooling), and for some the copyright infringement argument is just a cover for their issue with youtube-dl basically punching a hole in their garden's wall. As a
