Chromium Mac builds have supported extensions for a couple of months :) I wrote an extension using Chromium on a Mac http://github.com/tumult/jdic-chrome It's in need of updating to take advantage of NPAPI (to reduce its giant memory foot

You should check out the Qi language, though the developer who has historically contributed the most to it has departed some months ago. It has the ideas you are looking for (sans message-passing concurrency, I think.)

Yeah it can. There are two ways, in the sound section of the video properties ("boost") or by holding shift and pressing the up-arrow key. Normally the QuickTime volume control widget stops you at 0db (any more than that and you would be cl

You should learn Scheme, and then Haskell or an ML language (OCaml would be my choice.) Clojure is a "subset" of Scheme/Lisp, so if you learn Scheme or Lisp (as in Common Lisp), you basically know Clojure, plus some extra stuff that Clojure

One hell of a bug. It's pretty incredible that it just happens to work out that, every PDF link, which often open in annoying viewers in many OS/browser combinations, gets a scribd link at the end of it, both as a warning that's a PDF file

This is an interesting HN thread to watch, because you can see waves of (automated?) anti-Google votes roll through the thread. The article is sitting at #1 despite being terrible for a number of reasons already pointed out here. If this is

Actual article here: http://andrewchenblog.com/2009/11/25/product-design-debt-ver... Real reason websites look so ugly, not mentioned in article: browsers don't use good typesetting algorithms in order to keep reflow speeds high. (Compare

That's not insightful. You can't use Wave like that. It's technically an impossibility. Guy has no clue what he's talking about, just like every other armchair reviewer of Wave.

I think it's just that voting does an asynchronous request to the server, and a lot of requests to HN have been timing out lately. I usually open comments that I want to vote on in another tab, vote, and then refresh the tab later on to see

Docking them on the ISS uses the dock. Launching the shuttles for a goodbye costs millions of dollars for sentimental purposes. Most important: Retiring them on earth lets us put them in museums for people to see.

Some guy's blog and Wikipedia have been more accurate and interesting than news outlets for years now. Most news outlets are just mills for regurgitating press releases wired over AP and Reuters. There's little actual reporting going on. It

For anyone keeping track, the comment I am replying to is the kind of comment you should not be voting up if you want votes to mean anything. By extension, that also includes this comment itself.

It does appear to run without glitches. But your comment indicates that you never played the original Quake. Which ran at 60fps, software-rendered, on a Pentium I, with no audio latency.

Win7 x64, whatever version of Flash is the current release. It might have a lower frame rate due to running in Chrome, I don't know. I leave Flash disabled in other browsers due to frequent crashing.

Given Flash's atrocious performance profile, I'm surprised and impressed that this works at all. That being said, it chews an entire core on my computer to render the game at about 20fps, and the audio is nearly a half-second latent. Anothe

Basically "facilitated communication" means "someone else takes the guy's hand and makes it type words on a keyboard." Not an exaggeration. Right up there with homeopathy.
