Deadlines should always be a management problem. Missing deadlines ought to be a signal that there are inefficiencies somewhere - your requirements are unclear, goalposts are a little too fluid, etc. It's really your job as a lead to o

Sincerely caring about memory coherency is a totally lost art. Hardware gets faster, programmers add more abstractions to make their lives easier (read: ship more product, make companies more money) and the consumer is left kicking rocks wi

It's pretty clearly reverse engineered from bytecode by some sort of tool. It's full of `goto IL_label` statements. Would a programmer write a goto in C# at all, let alone call their procedures "intermediate language xyz&quot

Might be a middle-management-tier take, but I think there's value in "water cooler" talk when people are working in close physical proximity. Lots of brainstorming, new ideas, new perspectives on how to tackle problems that

I find a position that seems interesting and then find a recruiter/hiring manager from the company on LinkedIn and toss them my resume. Has gone pretty well. Although after I get a real human being's direct attention, they usually

Anecdotal - myself and most of my peers (software, EE) have moved onto new jobs during the pandemic for gargantuan raises. I don't know anyone in a white collar field who quit and is just chilling now. Old friends who work retail also

Lower end of pay and almost zilch for job opportunities without a PhD, at least in the US.

I have a lot of issues with dysmorphia and frankly kind of loathe seeing myself through the shitty front facing camera lens of most smartphones. I hope this type of auth doesn't catch on.

I'd come to the office on a daily basis if companies began subsidizing my commute. I used to spend nearly 2 hours every day sitting in traffic, uncompensated, to get to/from the office. That's a _very_ large % of my life doin

When I visited Iceland, it seemed commonplace to flash your highbeams at the person in front of you if you intend to pass. It becomes the person in front's burden to signal a clear, safe pass. Kind of strange, and I can't imagine

These are good for undergrad CompE or EE students for practicing before an exam, but irrelevant for industry hardware people. You'll be asked to draw a low-side drive with a MOSFET and an inductive load, given a circuit to analyze and

Not a change in language, but in problem space (which tends to lead to a change in language). If you're a .NET enterprise CRUD guy, try web. If you're web, try C++ application work. Try kernel stuff, try embedded. Branch out.
