In aggregate it's all a horror, given how easy it is to add SSR with Next.js. I know, I work on crawlers and scrapers professionally, and it's wayy easier, if you want a robot to scrape you, to have a site with SSR disabled. It&#x

Postmates has the cleanest API IMO. If you want to see an engineering horror check out DoorDash. Half GraphQL, half REST, random 500s, no SSR.

Just hired someone. I focused on character—looking for hard worker, resilient, and utter honesty—and intelligence, assessed through a fairly difficult coding challenge requiring recursion to solve. If you’re a software engineer, recommend r

We need to build our own phones, and run whatever OS we want on them. Why isn't it easier to build your own smartphone?

Well, my therapist might ask, “what is this procrastination doing for you?” How do you feel when I say, well, just do it. Angry? Sad? Why? You might notice you’re getting back at your parents for something. Totally reaching here, but the O

Wouldn't it be $5k * number of images scraped? Illinois has 12.7 million residents. If only 6 million images were scraped, that would be $30B.

I feel the exact same. Reminds me too of Nassim Taleb's idea that, if something as already existed X years, it's likely to exist another X years. I'm skeptical of the staying power of these transpilers.

Tried this out. It's a GUI tool for creating CRUD apis with authentication and authorization. It does the job but it's pretty clunky and heavy for what it is. You could probably get similar or better results with Postgres, PostgRE

As inflammatory and irrelevant as this comment is or seems to be, I'd have to agree ECS is, at least, underrated. My mind was blown when I learned about it.

Why is EKS unusual? I've found GKE to be wayy easier, but wasn't aware it (or--something else?) was more popular.

Just throwing this out there--Gitlab can be self-hosted (pretty quickly with a helm chart if you're running Kubernetes), and there are self-hosted alternatives to Slack and most other SaaS. Self-hosted Gitlab IIRC has an SSO config. If

Good question, and this rule is meant to be bent in those scenarios. I try to avoid these dependencies if at all possible, but if not possible, the "writes" for those modules all belong to a single service, and any other service,

I moved back to monolith and am very happy. I think of the monolith now as a collection of modules. The rule is now, one should be able to drag any of the modules to the top-level of our monorepo and create a new microservice pretty easily
