One thing I've been wondering for a while and haven't found a answer to. Providers like Digital Ocean let you use their nameservers. Why would I do this over just using the registrars nameservers?

Ouch, I just ran iperf on mine (rMBP wifi to LAN server). I get ~30 Mbits/sec with awdl0 down, and ~9 Mbits/sec with the interface up. This explains why I've been having some problems streaming movies over wifi for a while no

At this rate HL3 will be a fan made game. Valve is just going to buy the guys and girls who made it and slap their name on the box.

I've been thinking about why open forums tend to go eternal September and I've come to think it has a lot to do with how veteran users act. In the early days of a site like this if a new user comes along and makes negative/sn

Oh, it's blue. I seem to be the only one bothered by it but starting any iOS or OS X device for the first time bombards you with a lot of blue icons. I'm starting to equate blue icons with brown video games, more of the same.

I haven't used Instapaper yet but why not use the pinch motion to get out of an article as you'd do with pictures?

Just watched this TED talk today[1] and mentioned to a friend that 3D printing is going to be "really, really cool". While the video probably won't show anything new for your average hacker here it might be a good introduction for people ar

Why do fonts look like ants chipped away some pixels in chrome/win7? They look better in Firefox but I remember OSX looking better still, can be wrong about that though since I hadn't access to one in a long time. But fonts in Chrome are p

The most important thing about design is making sure that it works. Onswipe does not work. The scrolling is broken when visiting the page with an iPad. I can't read the last two lines without 'holding' the page up.

It is next to impossible for me to focus on audio (spoken) only. If I need to listen to something it has to be video or I opt for a transcript instead. Just a random data point that audio without video can be of no value too.

Interestingly enough isn't that how iOS started out? At least to some extend. It would be interesting to know how mobile/web would look today if Apple didn't introduce native apps and instead fully committed to web apps.

It's worth noting that as far as I know Steam Guard is active for any user who didn't disable it. Meaning, if someone tries to log in to your Steam account on a device that isn't yours (both via the client and on the website) he'll get a pr

How about making it dead easy to get all pictures in print. For example take a look at Apple iPhoto app (OSX) which allows you to easily create an album and have it print.

Until a few days ago drop.io; but they're gone now. You could use the public folder of Dropbox. Make a subfolder and put the videos in there. The url should be obscure enough. You can't put a password on it though.
