As part of dropping Heroku for our own platform we ended up writing something equivalent in python, then Go initially to deal with packaging/distribution. Its been pretty great, but damn I would have loved this to have been in Go. Th

Let me explain a little better, and again I am only basing this all off the small amount of data we have. Let me give an example as I am not the best at articulating. hopefully this helps. Lets say I hired this engineer as Senior or Team L

I would be even more hesitant to hire for a startup! can this person grow with the startup? what happens when we have 10, 20, 30+ engineers - how will they work with the team - will they second guess everything? will everything be an argum

To your first point, yes exactly. The interview is as much mine as it is the candidates. Not necessarily hiring to complete tickets as fast as possible, but some who can take a task and complete with minimal issues. I don't want to

Agreed, but without knowing the context I responded on this emails face value. I would also worry hiring a team lead/senior dev who appears to be combative from the initial screening

I was only responding specifically to a candidate responding with this email if I had asked them to do a hackerrank. While I can understand your leap to soulless masses - that was not my intention.

You want a personalized interview, styled exactly for you ? I would be a 'no' if i were interviewing me. You obviously can program but this makes you appear to be someone who would be difficult to work with.

i am thinking about using cockroachdb to power something like LDAP. but the CIO said no because it has "cockroach" in the name and no one would sign off. should i just do it anyway?

so? $49 is way too expensive for this. i can get a x86 from ebay way more cheaper than this. who would even bother, the rpi zero is $5.

Nice! my account came out pretty ugly :( and took nearly 5min to generate. But this could be a handy addition to deployment pipelines/PRs when following Infrastructure as Code (as well as being on AWS). Will keep my eyes on this. Also

Its not 24/7 (closes 1am every night) Nyc subway is unbeatable in that regard. And I prefer 24/7 service than being able to use the wifi to book an uber ;)

Containers are not OS configuration scripts.. they still need a host to run on. They still need networking managed.. im not sure how you figure that one out. Chef experts likely deploy your underlying hosts, setup other required services (

Sounds like your consultants were not sold on docker/containers as you already supported them. They wanted to lock you into a managed service so that you keep using them. If they really cared about containers they would have helped yo
