That was another thing he mentioned - his kid watches all the minecraft youtube videos too. I'm sure if you get bored of doing your own thing you can take a look at what other people are making and come away with a whole new perspective on

I just finished talking with a colleague whose six year old loves minecraft and I remember talking with a twelve year old who was similarly obsessed - to the point of knowing the patch numbers and all the details. The community which grew o

This just happened to my friend yesterday when I told him to install VLC. I think he may have clicked an ad instead of the first search result. I saw three pages for different add-ons and toolbars with several pre-checked checkboxes apiece.

I'm still finding that JQuery makes for much more concise and readable code, especially for chaining operations on groups of elements or xhr.

That's true but wouldn't you (as of today) still be much more comfortable going that route with a non-trivial project? Less time spent on the cutting edge battling the idiosyncrasies of the platform and more time building your app.

They take offense to Zuckerburg's "HTML5 isn't quite there yet" comment but in order to keep their implementation quick they had to build a custom iframe framework in addition to their TaskQueue and AnimationQueue implementations to replica

The first thing I did after reading the headline was go to the app store on my iphone and search for "google maps" - 328 results, and google maps isn't one of them.

I would assume that Amazon has something against that kind of automatic referral in their TOS somewhere.

Shouldn't the ternary operator be excluded as well if you're doing 'no ifs'?

Definitely. I remember checking out the BitBucket repo for pygments a while back and noticing how clunky the ui was compared to github. The new redesign at a glance seems like a huge improvement.

Kyle, great post. You said the final donation was made via an XHR POST, did you guys have a plan B for users without JavaScript or were the numbers small enough to ignore?

That's what I stopped on... FIVE javascript MVC frameworks? Maybe five WEB frameworks for the top languages, but knowing five JS MVC frameworks seems like a complete waste.

If you have a standard then you've already picked one, there isn't any argument at that point.

He really could have done without that bizarre strawman narrative in the middle and provided an actual argument besides "You're all wrong, just stop".

I'm thankful this type of problem hasn't come by my desk so far, but at this stage in the game I would assume that there would be a number of mature libraries for doing the ie8 iframe shuffle. I wonder why they went with a custom solution.

I assume this is for those of you too cheap to spend the $0.25 on a phone call. Pay for a service that's worth it.

Very nice! I wrote a simple python script with urllib2 and beautifulsoup to do the same thing a while back. When I was making it I noticed that the southwest servers would sometimes report slightly different times in the response headers (I

I still haven't received an email about this. My last email from blizzard was three months ago when I bought D3. I hope they plan on sending out something soon with a good explanation on why hackers having your ASQ is a really bad thing.
