To add a bit of context: - The OpenStack project makes a major release every six months. The feature freeze for the next release (codename: Havana, scheduled to be GA mid-October) was 00:00 UTC this morning. As this commit has been approved

I was keen to understand how it works and what this "flow" thing is, as the technical premise is really quite interesting. So I click on the video... and start hearing the xylophone... and say "uh oh". Folks, I have good

Heh, yes. I was going to facetiously suggest that if designers wanted to work on another ephemeral product, they should redesign the patterns printed on TP (first suggestion: chevrons indicating which direction to pull). Then I remembered

It's 100% accurate. In your "counter-example", you're running four different userspaces/distributions on the same operating system kernel. You could have posted a useful clarification to my comment (e.g. "but y

Unfortunately, that's where the "containers are like VMs, but better!" argument breaks down. Linux Containers, which docker makes use of, are more like creating a "clone" of the currently running operating system wi

As a frequent flier, I neither a) have any issues with the way boarding passes are designed currently nor b) have witnessed bewilderment in fellow passengers due to poorly designed boarding passes. Is this a case of design for the sake of a

Think about it this way: no matter how low you put the dividing line between A-level and B-level performers, you will always have people that fall below the line. So, set your line appropriately, but fire people below the line, no matter ho

The thesis of the article is mostly correct, though there are plenty of exceptions in the valley - the Facebook and Google IPOs made 100s of instant millionaires. This part bugged me though: "Lets put it this way. You're working at a start-

Almost definitely KVM. The Ubuntu/KVM/OpenStack combo is the bread-and-butter deployment scenario outside of a small number of folks (notably Rackspace, which is OpenStack on XenServer^TM). Also, <= Diablo and to a large extent Essex re

You can just show up at the border with your license / ID. If you have a passport they can look it up in the system. No fine, maybe a little lecture. Happens 100s of times a day as lots of people are still not aware that you need a passport

I can't speak to a comparison with Chinese cities, but TJ is pretty safe, as there are hundreds of thousands of middle class people living there now. Just stick to the places they go to (Zona Rio, Agua Caliente, etc) and you can have a nice

The kid was old enough to engage in meaningful financial transactions. There's always _some_ power imbalance in any kind of meaningful transaction - that doesn't mean that the person on the weaker side has the prerogative to act unfairly.
