I don't mean to take offense, I know you don't mean any, but saying what you're saying is a bit akin to telling a cancer patient that they need to just get over it. I hear what you are saying, but I do not think he is being that harsh. T

Another vote for black coffee. Once you get used to it, it's actually far more enjoyable than coffee with sugar and/or cream in it. You'll learn to be able to recognize the different tastes and types of coffee, which is pretty neat.

The choice is obvious is my opinion. Saving one year of your life (getting a masters in one year instead of two) is extremely valuable. If you think you will ever get a masters, take the opportunity to do it in one year. If you can get

Solid set of info there. Anyone know or have a guess as to the forum the botmaster linked to? Email's in profile if you don't feel like posting it for the public.

This has been posted and killed on HN before. The previous submitter had the good grace to delete it right away. Stay classy Isaac.

I suspect some sort of burn out. Honestly the guy was a machine. I remember looking at his commit logs for all of his public Github projects and wondering how he managed it. And mind you, that only accounts for code publicly released and

I'll downmod 99.999% of all posts that contain 'ROFLOL'. Not trying to be an ass, but we can do better. ;-)

Invent a word to what end? Do you think it would change the daily behavior of actual hackers? I doubt the mainstream media and the average population will ever understand the hacker mindset, even if a different term is used.

There is a place for prized asshole behavior. Probably not. There's always a better way to say something. Acting like an asshole is just a fallback for not understanding how to effectively communicate. I'd be annoyed at a coworker if I

Wow I'm hearing tons of complicated ways to avoid direct conversation. If you pay several thousand dollars for a machine, I'm pretty sure you get to decide to gets to do what with it. If it is your companies screen, you are still responsi

You can still hack today like they did in the 90's. You just need to smile and wear a suit. Adapt, don't die. ;-)

Google has some combination of your email, calendars, bookmarks, web browser, phone number, payment service, ad service, office suite, and physical phone. All of these make Google one click closer than any competitor. It's game over, at l

Try explaining tech stuff to tech-illiterate people. The road analogy has come in useful many times when explaining the ethics of vulnerability research and related security matters.

The security cameras aren't exposed because of Google, but rather because of a website admin that didn't know what he was doing. Google's responsibly for this is akin to the responsibly a construction company has for building roads to an i

The high school Computer Science AP exam asks you to do this with Java. Missing a semicolon is a minor deduction, but it is still a deduction.

I made this mistake for about a year. Ordered/downloaded tons of books, read published papers, etc. I learned a fair bit, but honestly you don't really learn until you start doing. Your return per hour spent coding is on average far high

You don't need to enter in dependencies with 'make' either (suffix rules or makedepend). Don't get me wrong, fabricate looks great, but let's not misrepresent the power of make in the right hands. From the docs: files.o : files.c def

Students, take this advice to heart as well. Are all your classes grouped together? They should be. I'd go so far to claim that you should take a less interesting set of classes in order to group them all together. I'm taking Distribute
