I'd be very interested to see a breakdown of the economics behind this ever happening. Anyone got a decent link/article they can share?

Misleading - a transaction was stuck due to the fee being too low. See https://twitter.com/binance/status/1536337215877283840

What actually needs to happen is a proper federated system (akin to the existing telecoms system) that is regulated in the same way worldwide. XMPP is great. It should have ended up being the new SMS in my opinion, but telcos wouldn't

I agree 100%. Keep things simpler, invest the $ that would have been spent on k8s staff on performance tuning courses & upskill your devs in squeezing every last millisecond out of a couple of dedicated servers. You can do lots with a

You have to factor in the power usage of having multiple drives spinning. Though I’d agree that smaller drives are better when you have a drive failure, as resilvering is quicker.

Reminds me of the project that used a Raspberry Pi running a software emulator as an Amiga CPU - Pi plugged into the CPU socket via an adapter board. Probably the most impressive project I've ever seen. https://www.hackster.

I’ll add that the accounting side can get complicated really quickly. You end up with lots of different scenarios. Earned but unbilled: out of bundle call charges, for example. Billed but unearned: a paid in advance monthly fee, for example

Yup, it's a nightmare. Invoices needing to be in specific number sequences. Any corrections need to be dealt with by reissuing a special "corrective invoice". Don't even get me started on geocoding for taxes. Urgh. Also,

Can you suggest another language that effectively allows inline templating like PHP does, and has a huge set of libraries available? PHP runs more of the "web" than you probably realise - some of the highest trafficked websites in

You obviously work with or design software that doesn’t care about transactions/ACID. It’s either scary that you’re not aware (read something, assume it is still correct, another concurrent process does the same, free £$ etc), or are r

As I posted to a child: Language also adapts over decades so that words are computer/IT terms & have no other connotations. Like most of the stuff in this thread. Have a think about that.

Indeed. Specialist YouTube channels are a goldmine, that’s why they work. It’s the new version of specialist magazines as far as advertising goes.

It’s just a modern word. “Landlord”. People know what it means. Stop anybody on the street and ask them what a landlord is? They will tell you. It’s an established word. What’s the point in changing it because a few people actively want to

Ok, but it makes no sense in the first place? “Motherboard” has long been a technical computer term, that even somebody with a passive interest in computers would understand. You would have to make an effort to be offended by it in some way

It’s a $1000 product. By sponsoring such a channel, you’re actually marketing to the exact people that you’d want to advertise to, all 2 million of them. You don’t need to sell many for it to make sense.

I know HN has a decent Factorio fanbase. Factorio properly stresses PC hardware, and borderline memory is usually ok for a casual gamer until you start a Factorio megabase. A decent example is Warger who does speedruns: https://f
