A similar chart could have been produced a few years ago about RIM. If I were to substitute RIM for Android and Android for WP and write the article in 2007, what would you be saying?

I agree with you on the need for a userbase. WP7 is currently at 2 million+ devices, which is pretty extensive but there is less competition than there would be on Android as there are fewer apps. As a result, the uptake on people buying yo

That's very useful info. Thanks for bubbling it up. My goal in writing the article was to get such things to surface as they're not visible today. In listing my contrarian case for the rise of WP7, I was trying to get opposing viewpoints so

Funny, I had exactly the same impulse. When I saw the kid as a proto-hacker, I came to the realization that we have to encourage such behavior. Would be awesome if everyone on HN gave at least the equivalent of a Superpass ($2) and I suspec

Yup. It was a hard lesson to learn. Don't ever let the success go to your head. Time, fortunately, has allowed me to get better at this :)

The amusing thing about this is that Dave Winer used to be quite vocal about comments being one of the defining criteria of what makes a blog. I guess his thinking on this has evolved. Sad to hear that he will be shutting down opposing view

Let me be the contrarian here. If you limit yourself to a few content sources, you won't be able to make the leaps that come out of having access to information outside those sources and will eventually fall prey to group-think. Might work

You're not. The continuing IOSification of OSX is something that has been bugging me too and part of why, to date, I've yet to upgrade to Lion. It looks like Apple wants to create a more iOS-like approach across all its products, which is f

Interesting article but I suspect what is happening here is what happens in most technology cycle: first the true believers and the hobbyists come up, finding ways to create something out of a new technology. Then the businesses come and ma
