I think you are correct in that commercialization can put on the finishing touches needed to sell a product. But that doesn't mean it has to be a proprietary commercial product either. See MySQL, Firefox, SugarCRM, etc.

I think the philosophy expressed here is true regardless of the language you're programming with. Where Chuck Moore differs is that he has attacked the inefficiencies at the lowest possible levels where the rest of us grin and bear it.
