Nothing kills the vibe of apartment living like trash neighbors. Same with houses, but it's just so much more pronounced in a multi-unit house. Construction plays a large part. Apartment buildings in the US are flimsy (usually). In oth

It's impossible to explain this qualitative difference in life to somebody who hasn't experienced it. When the outside environment is attractive, apartment living is glorious. When the outside is gnarly (e.g. no amenities, bad nei

I agree. Nice cities are just attractive places to be. Even for people who live in the single family homes near them. An expensive city is expensive everywhere, regardless the type of housing, > they're rightfully concerned Yeah for

I wonder if this is more a wild west pulp fiction meme, than actual reality. A lot of people today are collateral damage of cars, getting maimed, mutilated, crippled, killed, it's pretty indiscriminatory, drivers and bystanders alike s

I am a 100% in agreement with that statement, and I speak from experience, seeing how I used and have rented out an apartment in the past. But in actual reality, very specifically, airbnb has destroyed the character of entire neighborhoods,

fair enough. but that seems more like a furnished unit business type rental thing than for tourism. i don't think this is the bulk of airbnb usage (maybe it is). plus, hotels are starting to accommodate that more too, extended stay hot

for real. small time landlording is a drag, living under damocles' sword, one bad tenant or calamity away from getting months of your life ruined. small time airbnb renting is just gravy in comparison.

but tourist could use a hotel, no? landlords are using actual houses to service tourists, whereas a new hotel would do just fine as well and not take 100s of units out the rental market. If housing affordability is a function of supply&#x2

I love reading these sort of takes. It really is AND/AND. Yes, have your car, do all the car-things. But it _also_ should be safe and convenient to ride a bike. These things are not in opposition, especially since roads are so wide in

I really do disagree here. There's been plenty of road diets in my area where 4 lanes where reduced to 2, and this had no effect on travel time, capacity. Of course, reality, it's multifaceted etc etc.... but more lanes/more

You find it so obvious to be almost snarky about it. Almost no one in my city thinks like that, most see bikes only as recreational vehicle, or as the last resort for deviants and DUI-convicts. For these people, shopkeepers included, a bike

by trgn 3y ago
You're making the world a better place. 100% sincere. 99% of time there is absolutely no reason to honk. People only do it because the button is there and they're safely insulated from getting punched.
