The author raises some good points. However scaling across multiple workers while using a reverse proxy cache like nginx isn't terribly hard. And it can help make up for a less concurrent language/framework.

I happen to like what I find at the Clark's outlet. The one I go to holds a yearly sale where you can get shoes from $20-$40 (at up to a 70% discount). So I got some pretty awesome leather dress shoes for $20. And the sneakers that I bought

I'm glad to see someone else musing on something that I have always wondered about. You don't have a wear a 3-piece suit to be taken seriously. But when you wear faded/ratty jeans and a t-shirt it's hard to be taken seriously. Look at the p

Oh. That seems a bit needlessly complex to me. And I love PeepOpen, which adds this feature to Textmate and several other editors.

Did you read the "my budget..." bit? I don't pay $80/year for Prime membership when I barely spend $80-100/year and use the free super-saver shipping. Paying an extra $80/year is a total waste of money for me because I don't require my book

Just because I own an ebook reader doesn't mean that I don't visit my library. My budget will only take so many ebooks monthly—so, it's often cheaper to only buy what I really need and get the rest from the library. I'm mildly disappointed

I mean that I never found the thing or a place to turn it on. That's why I stopped using Sublime Text 2; I found it's UX to be confused. (Or at least able to produce that feeling in me.)

And yet, last I tried the alpha/beta of ST2 I saw that it lacked a project view. That's super handy to me.

I think it depends on if you're on "edge"/"nightly" builds. There was an update ~3 months ago, I don't remember what for.

Good point; I did not consider conserving objects and the overhead of allocation/initialization versus reallocation.

Why is "est".prepend('t') more useful than "t" + "est" ? I don't see why a method for prepending to a string is necessary, when it is so simple anyway... And random with a range parameter is useful shorthand. Anyway, I'm more

I think that in other languages such as Object Pascal it is easier to be a good programmer. I've seen horrible code written in OP, yes, but I think the language itself helps a programmer be better. For one thing there are fewer ways to kill

Enquiring minds would like to know the hardware / android-image you used for this project. Tablets, even large ones, are nothing new now... but I'd really like to know how to build my own.

Sure, this is why the young kids with no family and no life outside work make buckets of money: they spend almost all their time in the office. A salaried position is nice, but even then some industries put the salary low and give bonuses

Frugality helps me survive on what I make. $40k salary a year actually comes out to ~$154/day. Assuming 2080 hours/year of workable time, this is 40k / 260 "work days". I get less than this at the moment. If you can afford to invest 10% o

That is true. Yet I constantly think about the various companies that hype their Windows-powered tablets which never are released. Due to that happening a number of times with HP, and others, I've been expecting Microsoft to one-up the hard

Strategies like "release early, release often" and "version 0.1" don't work for massive corporations that can afford to finish a product before actively hyping it. I'd respect Microsoft more if they'd actually imitate that facet of Apple.

If Sol (the Sun) got acquired by Oracle it'd be time to start worrying. Then they'd want to sue us for unlicensed use, patent infringement, and charge us support fees. ;-) You got a smile from me today.

Our subjective opinions on how "gross" this is won't get us anywhere. I don't find killing and eating animals to be gross—eating something that literally wasn't alive (I don't find cells reproducing in that way to meet my definition of "liv

This is gross! Can they guarantee that the synthetic meat is healthy? Like, will it contain CLA, B-12, Omega-3s (found in grass-fed cows, and well-raised pigs), B-12, and so on? We get a lot of important nutrients from animal meat and fat t

Yet the assumption that all models require an ID is a fallacy. I was generating reports unique to the day, therefore a simple Date field was adequate as an index/ID. I don't know about other ORMs but when working directly with the SQL it'd

One Rails project I had got sidelined for a good 6 hours because ActiveRecord requires IDs on everything. The documentation says that you can skip IDs, but when you try to save it crashes every time. Go figure whose fault that one is.

I've heard that wind turbines currently are dangerous/lethal to many birds. If we widely deploy a great many "wind lenses" or normal turbines we'd see a substantial loss in bird population.
