I too come from a background of "before CSS" and hand-coding HTML. But I differ completely as to why we should use SASS/Less. So addressing her misgivings in order: 1. Code bloat happens—whether hand-crafted or automatic bloat. A good desig

I've taken to checking if the domain of the email has valid MX records. That, and a very rudimentary regex expression (not quite as simple as the OP's though) seem to do the trick well.

A 899kb JPEG image (100% quality) compressed at best compression will take file size down to 878kb (but who leaves a JPEG at 100% quality?). While compressing a PNG will yield a file of identical size most times, if not larger. I built my o

You could cheaply achieve RAID-6 this way! But data throughput might be abysmally slow though... so don't use it for servers. ;)

While the OP is correct about how arcane these industries are, there's one statement I just couldn't agree with: > So, why suddenly, in late 2010 and 2011, is Java suddenly the hated demon it is? Suddenly? In the 2010s? Hah! I hated Jav

I've already looked at Postbox, made by some of the previous Thunderbird developers. http://postbox-inc.com/ I'd have to try these to even come close to figuring out what to use. But the idea of SSO for email is a bad one, in my opinion.

I could do automated deployments via FTP (I wrote scripts to upload certain parts of a project during the build process) with a cron job on the server. Just check for changes and do the real "deployment" stuff on the server itself.

CMD/CTRL + R will take you immediately to the find by symbol/definition. This is the same as CMD/CTRL + P and then typing @.

This is a big assumption. See this animated example that danso posted: http://www.sorting-algorithms.com/ Yes, a difference of maybe 5ms won't be noticed... unless you're going a lot of sorting. Selection Sort is basically the slowest sor

IANAL, but I believe a ticket to attend an event is different from a CD or record. First Sale states that when you buy something like a book or CD, you have full right/control over what happens to it. But I believe that Louis has the right

No. An operation appears to be a one-off "action" rather than a collection of actions (like a controller).

From what I've heard, you're on the right track. However, I'd want it to not round-robin but go to the nearest working node. I don't use AWS, so I don't know how to configure the ELB, but I would assume that this is possible.

The comparison will be subjective. One will retain full detail (24-bit color) and the other will not. The "better" will be subjective, as I said. I wish Photoshop gave the option to save an 8-bit PNG with a FULL alpha channel—that's what th

Ditto. I'd like to see some side-by-side comparisons with PNGOUT, PNGCrush, OptiPNG, and AdvPNG. I use ImageOptim on my Mac to automate my PNG optimization—and it can get some impressive gains.

I almost understand what you mean, but my intuition keeps tripping me up. Say there's an LLC with 3 owners: 70%, 20%, and 10%. All members get 1 vote (unless I'm missing something). So how does the ownership relate to their control? What's

So control is unrelated to ownership; does this change the mechanics of companies based on their type? (C or S corps, LLC... etc) For instance, I thought ownership in an LLC reflected control as well. So if votes count with equal weight, th

I'd like to see an explanation of how this matters in plain English. I'm not sure what 0-1 in telomere length is, in relation to years, but the difference the chart reveals is less than 1/10th of a percent. The bias in the chart alone makes

Well, I won't buy a system that isn't upgradeable. Developers have needs that scale faster than a consumer, and if I can't upgrade my RAM ... forget it. Though with 8GB RAM and an SSD, the CPU has suddenly become my slow-point.

Maybe this was the ultimate "rickroll" of rickrollers. AVG might've had it taken down for just that purpose, fully knowing that it'd be back quickly.
