Nice list. I'm the co-creator of HackerFollow. As a note, we don't do any type of email notifications. Just creates a Twitter-like feed of posts and comments.

What is the purpose of a game publishing company on the app store? Feels to me like a remnant of the software-in-a-box distribution model.

Incredibly cool and in-depth post. But it's funny, I just assumed the conclusion intuitively since the first time I used a blue bird.

Definitely toeing the "Permission based marketing" line there, but sometimes you gotta be a little scrappy :)

This is an excellent post, and a very timely one with The Social Network coming out. The film certainly glamorizes startup life, and makes it seem like you won't fail. I released my iPhone app this Summer (SeizeTheDay, http://seizethedayap

When was the last time a "Co-President" worked well? Serious question, I'm just having trouble thinking of one.

They had to've. In fact, Drew cited the following in his YC app: # What are people forced to do now because what you plan to make doesn't exist yet? Email themselves attachments. http://files.dropbox.com/u/2/app.html

At the end he mentions "[In 5 years time,] when you buy a computer, you'll get this." I think that's about 5 years too soon on that one. Incredible demonstrations though... awesome to see science fiction become reality.
