Great many of the “proper jobs” are even less socially useful than TikTok. Many of them have negative value, eg working for TSA or dealing debts. We just used to pretend they aren’t.

And how exactly is nuclear propulsion necessary for any of this? Because it it makes a whole lot of difference when there are no allied harbors nearby, ie you are on the other side of the world, ie you’re invading someone again.

So how this “posturing” justifies Russian invasion and genocide? It’s not about gods. Is about the fact that Russia is the aggressor, and the West is helping the victim. Fixing the historical mistake of post-1990 Russia is just a byproduc

The real problem here is that the company was allowed to fire them like that. It isn’t some new problem; the fact that it’s using GPS is a technical detail.

Russia induced the conflict by invading Ukraine. There is no “self-righteousness” here; this conflict is unusually simple: there is an invading side, trying to destroy a nation, and there is a defending side. And just like before 1939, try

I’d call it a lucky accident, given the context - Russia would be harder to defeat otherwise. As for reasons - I’m guessing the usual, nobody wants to work on this, because pay is crap and, well, and I’m guessing many folks don’t want to w

What’s would be the defensive purpose of a nuclear aircraft carrier? The offensive part is obvious - makes a whole lot of difference when you are invading someplace on the other side of the world, which is what US Navy is optimized for.

Every missile can, but it won’t help much if you don’t have working guidance, like in this case. Of course you’re also assuming that a country that can’t even manufacture a car is somehow able to maintain nukes.

The UI is fantastic once you figure out that the pedals are to be wired exactly backwards, with input on the right side, output on the left.

The CHERI team had the same problem: https://github.com/CTSRD-CHERI/cheribuild . You'll need something along the lines of "./cheribuild.py sdk-riscv64 freebsd-riscv64 disk-image-riscv64 run-riscv64"

As things stand now, CHERI doesn't replace virtual memory. MMU is still there; CHERI is a layer placed on top (so it's CHERI capabilities -> linear local addresses -> hardware addresses). Which is why things generally work

Worth noting that CHERI _is_ definitely compatible with C and Unix; the default operating system for it is CheriBSD, a FreeBSD fork, and there is a growing number of purecap packages.
