Patents should be allowed, but the laws much tighter, and the benefit to the public in the long term much clearer. - Fees should be higher for independent prior arts searching - Community involvement in prior art search before granting of p

Honestly, I don't see it. It's been a while since I used emacs for development, but the entire reason I moved from emacs to eclipse was because I had at least a 10x improvement in productivity working with large [java] code bases. Has jdee

Eclipse has an insane amount of plugins to do extra things, and writing your own is pretty simple if you really need to do it. People tend to forget though that you have shell access as well. You aren't somehow limited to just the ide!

It really does sound like he doesn't want to learn new things. "I've never figured out how to get Visual Studio or Eclipse to produce a compact list of all the places where a particular string occurs throughout a program."? Come on. [in ecl

I am sure that's why google didn't implement it earlier; perhaps they have some licensing deal with those companies now if they are still around. It's pretty simple technology.

Personally I find the problem the lack of raw data. We need a much more opaque process with science. Imagine a website that allowed the following workflow: 1. Upload hypothesis 2. Describe experiment 3. Add datasets as they come in 4. Analy

I built one years ago (2001ish) but never even tried to commercialise it as there are tons of patents on it, with relatively big players. Perhaps they all folded, I haven't kept up with it.

That would be seriously cool. Imagine one-click then rearranging a site on the fly.

High altitude balloons are great fun. I am working on a rocket launch mechanism for one in my spare time. Costs are really low. http://www.hobbyspace.com/NearSpace/index.html

I'd like to think I could tell as well, but only a trial would let us test your hypothesis.

You should try publishing under a different name next time and see what the response is. It would be an interesting experiment.

As I remember, there was only one major player who realised it. I think this is the definition of non-obvious. If it was so obvious that is was artificial, then you would have taken the bet.

Agreed emusic is great. On your last point; now we have another study, from a somewhat biased organization that believes strongly in, relies on, and supports, the "long tail" version of the music industry to support the long tail theory. An

Has anyone used HTMs? How do they compare to other learning algorithms? More importantly, have they solved any problems that were unsolvable before HTM's? I personally don't see any real reason to use them from the website. I would expect s

I've always thought an exclusive, invite only beta testing site where the company throws up 500$ or so, and everyone who tests and nitpicks gets a share would be awesome.

ART is very different - it couples movement with massage to mechanically stretch out the muscle. It's usually far more effective.

Remember the key you are going for in your postural work is time. You spend 50+ hours on the keyboard a week. You need to be able to have a [postural] buffer large enough so there are no overflows into poor posture, which means a large work

Off the top of my head things you could try: 1. Go to a paul chek, nasm or shirley sharman practitioner. They will check out your posture. Ignore anything they say about the one true way [edit - I mean the research is inconclusive - either

IANAL but to my knowledge (multiple patents under my belt) if the patent covers A,B,C and you only implement A,B then you are fine. It depends how they have setup their claims though - some may be optional.

I can't wait. I sometimes switch to xp on virtualbox to use it as it's so much faster than firefox. It's not the raw speed, its the process per tab. It makes a huge difference when you have multiple heavy ajax apps open all day long.
