There's no single self-contained solution in the post really, it's more an illustration of a number of useful things that Lua can be used for. I might try to put another post together at some stage though. For us our main goal is to prevent

Please, please don't help to persist the convention of putting the API version number in the URL. There are far better ways of doing it. http://stackoverflow.com/a/975394/62871

Yes that works too as I mentioned in the first couple of paragraphs of the post. However having a beta.mixlr.com domain a) introduces a lot of friction and seriously reduces the ease with which you can test features b) may alter the percept

As I explained in the post, that's the intended behaviour. We want to allow our users to enable beta version for all visitors to their Mixlr page, not just for themselves. But a cookie approach would be easy too - see my other comment for a

Cheers. Yeah a cookie approach would be suitable for a lot of uses, including A/B testing. It's easy in Nginx/Lua: local is_some_cookie_set = nginx.var.cookie_SomeCookie ~= nil; Then you don't need Redis at all. For us though, we want to se

Thanks. I didn't know that. I did strip out a lot of the more advanced/ambiguous Nginx config for clarity though.

There's nothing to stop a Facebook app being built like this. In fact, Facebook recommends this approach. It's simply that many developers feel that it's easier to get all the permissions in one go, when the user first signs up.

It really shouldn't be even close to a defining moment in your life. There are a myriad of routes to building a successful company, and YC only accounts for a tiny percentage of them. It's easy to miss this fact if you spend a lot of time r

Personally I would expect to get a salary much closer to market-rate than "lodging and food plus some" from a company with $1m funding - especially if I was to be the lead developer and first employee. I would then consider 1-2% equity to b

Have you used a debugger before? The interface to gdb built into Xcode works pretty similarly to other debuggers. To get the most out of gdb, learn to use it on the command line. It's very simple to get started, you can use it outside of Xc
