Here’s the thing. If you are poor — making a low income — it doesn’t really mater. Even if you owe them some money you’re too insignificant for the IRS to worry about. More likely they owe you refund money and it will just sit there and eve

Awesome! I’ve been waiting to see if someone would eventually do this. With further refinement this could be a big deal for Ruby. No more “Ruby is too slow”, when you can Crystalize your bottlenecks. One feature it seems to lack is the abil

Stow never got enough love. Gobo Linux was based on the same idea, it never got enough love. Now we are paying for it with heavy weight solutions — containers, snaps, flatpak, etc. instead of evolving to a higher-order form of Stow.

Something I realized years ago, the 6502 instruction set is small enough that it can be (almost) entirely implemented as memory look up — no actual logic computation need occur.

It would have a better chance of passing if it offered some financial benefit to employers. Maybe a reduction in payroll taxes?

Not really a good question. It could be interpreted as asking how many books you have left to read . It’s also rather poor grammar without a ‘do’, “how many do I have now”.

I think the take away is that the progress has been surprisingly good and, if it continues, the next generation of designs after the ones we currently have might be viable.

HP is the worst. To even print from Ubuntu I had to install their spyware. And it still doesn’t work all the time. I blame Microsoft though. They strong armed HP back during the WebOS fiasco and that was end of anything good from HP.

I don’t think NixOS was actually usable back then either. It was still more an idea and few people had heard of it.

There is nothing “dangerous” about this if you know the behavior. In Ruby nil is a representation of emptiness, so when using the to_ conversion methods you will get an empty instance of a type. If you don’t want this behavior you use a con

From what I have observed the current generation of AI (LLMs) is only good enough to help a programmer — write example algorithms, give ideas for what direction yo take, etc. However, we are about one major breakthrough away from total game

I used to use Gimp for simple editing needs about a decade ago. I got fairly good at using it back then, but haven’t needed it in a long while. Yesterday I needed to draw an outlined circle… and couldn’t figure out how.

This was probably my first computer game — this or Cave. Both of which I played on a terminal tied to a mainframe. I have no idea which mainframe. I was probably 7 or 8 making 1977 or 1978. I never was able to get past the first troll in Ca

“It’s the macros, Stupid!” Seriously. Macros have to be understood a priori to be readable. Macros make the cognitive load of the language very heavy. Contrast that to Ruby which can do rich DSL without macros. It’s much easier to read and

Sorry. There’s way too much complexity here. And too much shouting! The namespace idea did seem interesting though.

A similar language that’s been worked on for a while now is [Min]( https://min-lang.org/ ). Interestingly it is written in Nim. I was interested in the C interface part but it never got there. :(
