I would love to see what the environmental impact of recycling a computer (and acquiring a new one with lower power consumption) versus buying a new one. I suppose that makes more sense for business than home, though.

It's not a user facing feature, and x86 macs are the past already - I doubt they'll bother porting it.

browser fingerprinting hasn't been deployed in the wild, and I use the firefox built in anti-fingerprinting as well as extensive privacy protecting extensions. Of course, that's not perfect. On the other hand, it took 30% of peopl

I use a Firefox extension (self deleting cookies). Clicking "accept" and then having the browser delete all of those trackers when I leave the site? Pretty good.

If you want a material example, the raspberry pi's SOC is designed to be mounted in read only mode with industrial on-board flash. It is meant to be used with the broadcom toolkit that includes multiple boot partitions for safe and val

I don't think they do. I also don't think they can easily decrypt icloud as you're making it out to be. However... yeah. This is a massive breach of trust. Having any spyware agent on my device is disgusting. I can't ima

It's not unreasonable to expect the speech recognition models to be run locally. As to the wake word point, I agree. I don't think alexa/siri/etc are currently bad or disrespecting privacy. I actually have a smart home w

I'm just trying to buy time until open source and secure alternatives have addressed these problems. Apple doing this has moved my timeframes up by a few years (unexpectedly).

I don't think it's implausible that I carry around a phone that has mail, contacts, calendars, photos, and private chat on it. And then, have a second, older phone that has like Instagram and mobile games. It's tragic.

I use maps on my phone on a regular basis - I would vastly prefer to have something less featured and stable versus hacking the crap out of my phone. But that's good to know.
