I'm largely of the same mindset... I find the current .Net tooling for the backend to be pretty great. C#, Dapper and FastEndpoints FTW. I still really like JS/TS tooling with Hono and Rust with Axum though... but C# today is pr

For that matter, the entire site could be in a Cloudflare worker with all the content in R2 (no egress fees, just storage). Likely to barely exceed the $5 baseline price for a paid account. (not sure on the storage costs, but likely well u

I think the free/cheap tier is what gets people kind of hooked... it's really easy to setup something like Dokku self-hosted and run a few dozen apps on a decent rented server... Even then, there's something appealing about

There's also good old edit... ;-) https://github.com/microsoft/edit Yeah, it's a re-creation of edit, but it's pretty great... also runs outside windows.

You can jump through a couple hoops to get WinGet working in Windows Server environments without much issue. IIRC, there's a single PS1 script you can run to do it, followed by a reboot.

I think it's in reference to using Win9x notepad.exe as opposed to somewhere in the Win7-10 timeframe before they went over the top in Win11.

I just don't get why they didn't just add these features to WordPad, where it would at least make more sense.

I need to just break down and find an old version of that... from before the Jasc sellout. IIRC, it ran via Wine without issue too. I try to use Pinta/Paint.Net, but it's not quite as good as I remember psp being. I don't e

What's funny, is this is exactly one of the reasons I happen to like JavaScript... at its' core, the type coercion and falsy boolean rules work really well (imo) for ETL type work, where you're dealing with potentially untrus

I've been using Deno a LOT for general shell scripting... it's been pretty nice in general. FWIW, Node, Bun and Deno have FS interfaces in the box, so yes, you can do it without npm modules. Though Deno allows you to directly
