It’s such a broad topic, but the book doesn’t cover resiliency. There’s no discussion of service meshes things like that.

How do you disconnect and shutdown the problem solving part of your brain? I’ve found that writing a log or a daily summary, a core dump, if you will, helps me disengage. But not always.

Complexity related -- "Don't wake up the programmer" ( https://alexthunder.livejournal.com/309815.html ). This crystallized for me why you shouldn't interrupt devs when they are working and keep interrupti

This is amazing, looks like there's a cli version too: https://github.com/gildas-lormeau/single-file-cli Presumably you can roll your own pocket now.

That's really neat. Is there a way to script Firefox to do this headless and store an html file (with the single file extension)?

Can you share the service? Or share how you scrape the content? There's https://readability-bot.vercel.app that is based on Firefox's reader mode, but it doesn't work very well.

I found that learning lisp development follows logically from using emacs. To configure emacs you have to use elisp, so you naturally become proficient in it. That also finally elucidated the staying power of emacs. I don’t know of any othe

Trying to refurbish a carburetor for an old Japanese bike. I gotta say the long feedback cycles are challenging. With unit tests you get immediate gratification of seeing things work or not. With carbs, you gotta clean 'em, assemble th

I agree that asynchrony would be a stronger technical solution, but it’s not the defining characteristic of SOA. They author mentions circuit breakers so seems like they did think about network resiliency. Other then async what would make

Lots of developer tooling and adjacent here, no surprise. I'm gonna throw Emacs in. Amazing piece of tech. Can't think of anything off the top of my head that would be for "general populace" though. Is open source mostly

That’s a little dramatic. As a manager you deal with people. As an IC you also deal with people but to a smaller degree. If you can handle dealing with people you stand to make more money. It’s a job.
