I couldn’t get my 4k monitors (both LG, one 24” and one 27”) to work consistently until my company sprang for Apple’s $39 Thunderbolt 3 USB-C cables. Even Belkin’s are $29, but I swear don’t work as well. Some standard where you need a $40

I still like Naval Ravikant’s definition from his extraordinary guest spot on the Farnam Street podcast[1]: “Today, I believe that happiness is, it’s really a default state. It’s what’s there when you remove the sense that something is miss

I bought a chilipad[1] awhile back after reading Sam Altman's post on productivity[2]. I leave it on 66 or 67 degrees, and fall asleep much faster than I did before. I snake the tube under the bathroom door to muffle the sound, but it&

I’m listening to a collection of Malcolm Gladwell essays and was somewhat blown over by one about power-law distribution of homelessness[1]. Basically a small, stubborn minority of the homeless population are financially worth housing (by f

It's a good time to reflect just how unique/valuable Steve Jobs was to the process. He was one part computer nerd and one part aesthete. He possessed the ego to follow his gut and also the humility to put himself in the end user&#

I thought he was already splitting his time between London and Cupertino around the time he took on his grander title several years ago. Apple Park was likely a rewarding (new!) endeavor, but their largely iterative product line probably do

I often make small changes to large files, so this matters to me. Does iCloud or anyone else handle changes this way, or just Dropbox? I’ve used Dropbox forever, but it feels like more of a commodity these days, and I’m finally paying for i

Second this. It’s the best podcast I’ve ever listened to—I re-play it every time I have a road trip. They went as far to create a lovely transcript of it, too: https://fs.blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/N

I don’t understand why they refuse to at least add forward-facing LIDAR. Lane paint sabotage, low-contrast lighting situations and construction are just a few risks that make me nervous to trust autopilot at highway speeds. I say this as s

I use privacy.com for that and have been happy with it. Nice controls (one-time, max monthly allowance, custom expiration).

I like the LAX screensaver on Apple TVs—you can pick out the more organic/bird-like curve of the newer generation carbon fiber 787 planes from the old ones. I’ve never thought about it, but they do look less stable.
