Entirely different concept. I want simple data to be easily distributable and interpretable. Make a format that can universally read/write the data in these very basic graphs: http://download.cell.com/images/j

yep, yep & thanks :) Most of my peers either use Excel, blindly learn by rote a series of 'voodoo' commands to input into a very specific program running on a dusty old Win98 machine. Get out a calculator. Or beg their CS

It would be really nice to have an open, human-readable scientific data format. Basically a CSV+ that had a single piece of metadata - uniform mandatory SI units. To be able to read/write/import/export that to and from deskt

There are a lot of much more basic (far less sexy) things a basic programmer can do that don't need much power. Being able to access those Biopython/biohaskell libraries entirely from a GUI would aid so many people. If you alrea

A specific example from my own use. Basic image processing to track a bright spot. I want to be able to take a stack of 100 TIFs, look for a few white spots on a black background - and track their centroids. That's it. State of the a

Educating us is not the problem. We know. Just not much we can do about it. We don't have funding to hire coders/developers/designers. And even if we did, we'd likely spend it on that new microscope instead. Much of w

Classically, White has been consumer grade and black has been the professional grade in Apple design. See iPhoto vs Aperture, or iMovie vs Final Cut Pro. The Macbooks were all white, while the pros were (admittedly not black, but) metalli

It gets weirder too. In SF I can make substantially more money working for a random social startup than I can working as a postdoc directly on cancer-curing science. I have the capacity to work on such science at a high level, or a social
