Had to deal with Windows/Skype/Office login issues for a senior. It is insane that people who pirate have an easier time than paying customers.

Any recs for classes in the Bay area? I've heard of interview cake and was considering getting it. But it seems not as useful as a class.

I agree with the parent. I think you are selling yourself short. Who says every dev needs to be deep? A lot of us get to very senior positions by being very broad. I suck at interviewing but have always managed to find amazing jobs where pe

Your "seed corn" argument is not obvious to me, especially since we are talking about corporate taxes. Care to elaborate? I think one of the unintended effects of the loose monetary policy at home and abroad is the extreme rise in

Microsoft Research Silicon Valley (MSR-SVC) used to be like PARC of old. Too bad it was shut down a few years ago. I don't know if any place comes close. To be fair, there are pockets of awesomeness at places like IBM T.J. Watson and M

I watched the videos and this lighting system seems very nice. Why does the gateway need an a internet connection though? For firmware updates and supporting the mobile app? Since it says local only, I assume the mobile device has to be on

What is the nature of the debt? Housing? As an aside, I once saw a homeless man in a Scandinavian country. Someone actually stopped their car to check on them. As a tourist from NA, my mind was blown. Was impressed by that but not having to

In NYC, there was a hackathon I attended a few years ago where everyone got the same problems (forget what it was called - comedy hackathon maybe?). It was about who could solve it fastest (or at all). Each problem was time-boxed, to be don

We paid off huge student loans first, instead of getting into housing. Housing doubled. We're priced out of our local city. Also .. I highly suggest that if you want to buy a place, do it before the baby arrives. After the baby, you ar

You are missing the point. The problem is prices have doubled since 2012. People who didn't time it right are hosed. And there was no obvious reason why prices should go up so much so fast.

Why are tech salaries so bloody low in Canada? It is really disheartening that many union jobs that don't require the same level of skill end up getting far more compensation. I once had a a good CS student tell me he was getting a tru

I went through the FPGA book with Oreilly. It is not great but bad. If you know zero about FPGAs and are not super technical (more of a hobbyist), this could be a very good book. It has a bunch of chapters, each is a project with a particul

I've been doing software dev since I was a kid. In my mid-30s now. I spent almost a month with Rust about a year ago. I was very disappointed. The borrowing rules seem to have changed as the language had evolved. I found the Internet d
