It's fine if it's opt-in until the opt-in becomes opt-out and I get to use my old gear until it dies. That would still be fine with me except for the fact that my income and by extension wife and family depend on me using a comput

Docking is expensive, so no. It's also only needed once per 5 years or so for maintenance. Government fining you a ticket doesn't mean your address has to be on the drivers license. They could register the number plate to an SSN f

Apt username. I already have to deal with non-functional wifi because of frequency band restrictions. And instead of buying physical media (or streaming), I have to "pirate" content because of DRM. Any hardware or software that di

That's pathetic. It would mean you can't live anywhere without a street address, such as a camp site or a ship. You also can't be a nomad. So much for "land of the free".

Not just tech. Does anyone on the planet actually know all of the subtleties and idiosyncrasies of the entire tax code? Perhaps the one inhabitant of Sealand and the Sentinelese but no-one in any western society.

I can't take this seriously. You've got the backend of some networked application and now you want to offload the database to a SaaSS which has... "SQLite compatibility"? SQLite is an embedded database. Every Android app

You can use a TPM for disk encryption with Linux if you want. You also get to use your own secureboot keys if you want. Your choice. I can't be bothered. My 80386 worked fine without any of the above and I still don't need any of

Telnet was among my debugging tools for web applications. And sending an email without line editing felt much more exciting than a dedicated mail client. Just dig the remote MX, telnet to port 25 and do it by hand. Marvelous!
