What a lovely story. Sad to see the others don't like it. The most incredible thing is that a group of enthousiasts can join in the standards making process and actually move companies as big as Google and Apple. Even just a tiny bit.

apk and xbps can do this. You specify a different root to work in. Most Makefiles allow you to specify an alternate DESTDIR on install.

Why is there a need for a package manager inside a container at all? Aren't they supposed to be minimal? Build your container/vm image elsewhere and deploy updates as entirely new images or snapshots or whatever you want. Personal

Back in 2002 I took the HDD from one PC, put it in a different PC, worked just fine. The worst thing that could happen is that the other one already had another disk so I had to change /etc/fstab to say "hdb" instead of

The stats are per half a year, so even more than that. And we don't even know what the guy is really wanted for. I think EFF was just waiting for this to happen to make a political statement. That's what they do, if course, but ho

The entire record industry is scum and Spotify is just a part of that. It can just die a swift death, would be for the best. Bandcamp is much better. Much lower barrier to entry for everyone and it has my favorite artists.

This is how exploits always work and nothing new at all. It's like having barrier tape around a construction site as a warning when someone holds it up and says "Ha, I can still get in!"

I like having a red bar for tmux running as root and a blue one for running it as a normal user, e.g. for root: set -g status-style "bg=red" I also like to have the bar on top and the status centered: set -g status-

That's not my point. To make myself clear: CMake is terrible. You can put lipstick on a turd, but it's still a turd. Most languages have a build script written in their own language but C++ projects by and large use CMake. It'

CMake as a language makes PHP look good. Whenever I have to use it, there's a whole lot of warnings and often errors, too. Problem is, the line CMake says had an error may not be the line that caused it. And when everything finally wor
