If a company is going to lie or skirt the law about their cookie use, why show the banner at all? It's almost worse to show a decline option that does nothing.

Speaking of, are there alternative Reddit backends? It would be interesting to be able to take one of these sites or Reddit apps and point it at an alternative backend that provides identical functionality with different data.

Especially because a "professional" programmer should be able to get along just fine without goto. Goto is bad practice in many languages where it does exist, too, like Go.

Here's a thought experiment about a theoretical company that can obtain incredible valuation. You start out with some money from friends and family, and you use this money to sell $100 bills for $50. Lots of takers. Soon enough, you go

Yeah, I really wish they would sell a version without all the instructions because I think it would look really clean! I've been thinking about just cutting a piece of aluminum to go over the front plate.

Your best bet is to find a large PC monitor. There are a few 43" monitors out there with decent speakers. The predator CG7 is one I'm looking at.

You should try running it through a pihole. Even better, maybe you can manage to MITM it and replace the ads with something funny.

I have a microwave with one dial. Best microwave around. Nobody can get confused about how to use it. There's not even a turntable so it holds more food and it's easy to clean. That's the Sharp R21LCF for ya.

Reminds me of Let's Encrypt issuing 90 day certs instead of 1+ year so that you're forced to find a better automated solution and not have a panic when your cert expires in 5 years

There is a certain point where you have to compromise and say the cost of a security breach will be less than the cost of devoting more resources to security. I could spend hundreds of thousands on building my house with redundant locks, se

Have you tried running an unsigned app from the internet? There is no "allow" button. You have to go through security menus and whitelist the app. Who knows if that will still be possible in the future.

They say that, but this removal has exactly nil to do with security. Apple was getting $300m / year in revenue from this one app. Does it really cost that much to check this app for viruses? I don't think they'll be winning i

In this case, was the Fortnight app removed from phones or was it just removed for new downloads from the app store? It sounds like the latter but the article is unclear.

I really appreciate having the MacOS app store as a sort of "trusted" alternative to downloading off the web. That said I can't ever see Apple removing the ability to download applications from untrusted sources, like they di

I had a personal website from 2007 that ran for maybe 10 years. Unfortunately I had an open comments section and it was not paginated. Once bots made a half-million comments the site wouldn't load anymore. Decided to just shut it down
