What I don't get is why one oar is rotated 90 degrees off the other one. It means whenever I use these double-sided paddles I have to rotate them ever so slightly whenever I make a new stroke. It's annoying and I don't unders

Unrelated to crypto bros, Discord is just the best messenger for groups. It being used by business is inevitable, as it just outmatches Slack, and obviously Teams.

Using a proper programming language seems to be the obvious end-game of configuration. Everything as code. Not quite sure why we keep trying and failing to use non-Turing complete configuration languages.

The capital and biggest city of Germany was always going to be expensive. IMO the capital shouldn’t have been moved back to Berlin. Anyway, that’s too late now. What I’d like to see is administration and ministries moved far out of the city

Georgian food is very mediocre. Bread with cheese isn’t bad, but it’s nothing special. Brazilian food, however, is very underrated.

The fascinating thing about the Poland example is that the Germans living in modern fay west-Poland were moved out and into what's now Germany. So the culture and people are gone. What you see are the political effects of better infras

Not that it makes a huge difference to your argument, but most countries don't look good compared to Sweden. It's a country that hits well above its weight in science and technology. A bit like South Korea.

Depends if you count the cost of statutory health insurance as a de-facto tax, in which case it's closer to 40% again. There's a bit more nuance to this (there's a contribution cap), but if you ever read that taxes in Germany

Rust will eclipse C++. C is a harder nut to crack, particularly for the embedded space where ease of implementing and maintaining a compiler back-end/code-emitter for your new weird 8-bit architecture is important. C is pretty close to

Hm... Pretty solid argument in favor of federated/decentralized protocols, this. Is there anything out there that doesn't suck? Not for chat. We've got Matrix and chat is usually not censored anyway.

I don't think the comparison is entirely fair since one of the main attractions of TS is that it runs in the browser. Python can unfortunately not fill the same role right now. So I'd keep that in mind while looking at that rankin

It all depends on access pattern. Do you tend to select entire rows? Use a row-oriented DB. Do you tend to select entire columns? A column-oriented database might be for you. That's it, really. None of the designs are superior, afaik.

You can run your own workloads really cheaply on a self-hosted Kubernetes cluster on a cheap provider like Hetzner or similar. Cloud being expensive is really just because AWS, Google, and Microsoft are milking the enterprise market. If you

I wish we'd stop trying to make broken languages work. This feels like hill-climbing into the strangest local optimum possible. JS is not the best example of an interpreted language. Wouldn't it be better to put Python in the brow

Yes, but with a much leaner, memory-efficient, and more secure runtime. WASM is kinda "JVM without the Java bits" but that's a good thing. Having the VM provide facilities for GC is not necessary. Go shows that you can embed
