I'd argue that currying is actively harmful (I suspect you agree). I've seen functions take one argument in one source file, and the next argument in another source file. In JavaScript no less. Horrendous stuff. One of my most hat

I get the feeling it's basically an old-fashioned application server like Wildfly or Tomcat. So the developer doesn't worry about system-d config or whatever, but just adds their application files to a folder. Of course someone ne

Because DirectX is a success and Metal is not. If Apple wanted Metal to be a success then they'd need Windows devices to support it, and ideally a console too (like DirectX with Xbox). There's a lot of bad things you can say about

It's my impression that the WebGPU spec design team went to extreme lengths to accommodate Apple's wishes, and Apple in turn does not even support WebGPU in Safari. Why not express vitriol? Apple does not seem to act in good faith

You also probably know this, but they don't really care about the console per se. What you buying the console means is that Nintendo gets to stand on the bridge between your console and game developers and demand 30% or whatever it is.

Okay, but then you could also keep it running on an old OS. Fork out the money for a RHEL license, and just never upgrade.

People object to this approach, but Apple does this, and they seem to be doing fine.

I think this is a bit outdated. Veloren started out as a Cube World clone, but the goal has changed over time to Veloren being its own thing.

Note that Tiny Glade implemented their own Vulkan renderer, although they do use the rest of the Bevy code base, I think. At least the ECS. Bevy's WGPU renderer is a lot less fancy than Tiny Glade's Vulkan renderer.

If I remember correctly it actually is a typo. Someone typed "verloren" wrong and thought it was a good name for the game. The story behind names is often not so glamorous.

Oh, and the (Siemens, at least) trains also take like 30 minutes to boot up. And rebooting a train is often a way to fix problems. So delays can happen because a train is sitting on some important piece of track while rebooting. This reboot

Agreed. I've contributed to the game, so I feel like I have some sort of insight here. Veloren is a bunch of cool features in a bag, but my impression is that there is little focus on the gameplay loop and the holistic player experienc

The only currently maintained generally available engines used by major studios are Unreal and Unity. Maybe you could count CryEngine, but afaik only one major developer besides Crytek themselves use it. Some indies use Godot, but that'

Let's be real. The Republicans would absolutely ruin any such institution the moment they'd get the chance. Better to keep health care private and instead socialize insurance. A hollowing-out of insurance is far easier to reverse

Probably just means the decision to use Scala was taken back when it looked like it could really be the next big thing. These days it's clear that Scala has lost all momentum. Scala 3 was an attempt to fix that by appealing to Pythonis

I do think Rust would be better for web dev if it had GC, but it doesn't, and no other language comes close to having as good ergonomics otherwise. And the memory management is something you learn once and then it's a bit verbose

The law in Romania is certainly not known for its perfection, but what legal system doesn't flex when the US (or a regional equivalent great power) leans on it? This is not a reasonable benchmark.

It's easier to run a startup in the US, so why do it anywhere else? The financing is easier, the labor laws more business-friendly, and the native market bigger. And that's how it's going to stay for the foreseeable future. E

Once everything has made it through the jungle telephone you're lucky if it's 80% correct. 20% wrong is a downright reliable source by human standards, at least about topics which people care about.

I got 15 minutes for basically a useless compiler and programming language that I spent 6 months on. Just for the effort-to-result ratio I feel like it's possible to do quite a lot better.
