Because you have updated your reply with more information I make a new reply instead. My old reply still stands about the what the article said and my use of optimistic locking. Databases do support locks, usually called pessimistic locking

Article talks about two different types locks, one is the mutex, which the article admits won’t work when using with multiple instances. The other is briefly mentioned with a link to Wikipedia and is a optimistic lock that is to be used wit

No, locks work. Lock is needed if you need to do some sort of complex computation before writing, like updating a JSON blob.

DB transaction will not save you in this case. As the article hinted you have to either update the balance in one query or use a lock, like an optimistic lock. Optimistic lock could have also been used instead of the mutex.

Rebuilding an industry takes time, those resources that was previously allocated to this industry is now allocated elsewhere and need to reallocate again. Also the expertise that is required to run a business like this is either gone or doi

Contact Spotify support. Had a similar problem where I had a leftover Facebook-Spotify account after delinking that blocked my normal account from changing my email. Spotify support was quick to help me.

I think we have to make a distinction between web page and web application. Unfortunately many web pages today are written as if they were web applications.

I have another crazy idea, how about rendering web pages on the server, that way web pages will not eat up the battery for mobile devices. And it is probably better if power consumption increases on the server side rather on the client side

Not only has DDG become better, especially for regional/localized searches, Google has become worse. What Google has done is to prioritize mainstream sources over correct matches. In the old days you could get a match for small unknow

Funny thing is that ICQ basically did all of that in 1998. We are going backwards in software development.

What we see now is that companies like Apple, and other hardware & software manufacturers as well, is transforming into service companies, you are de facto renting the system you have purchased. Service companies in other sectors, like

Defiantly one of the best proposals for enums in PHP so far. It handles many of the needed requirements, reuses classes as building block so you get a type, can have methods or case specific methods, can implement interfaces, can be mapped

Static class is probably the best solution for having namespaced functions combined with having auto loading working correctly. Structs would be great too, especially if PHP could support inner class definitions.

Why would it hurt the low barrier group? PHP is designed that you can use the functionality you need and sub functionality to a functionality is usually also optional, e.g. you can use functions if needed and with functions you can have typ

Equivalent of let/const for PHP would be manual use of include/require when loading php files, modern code bases rely on an auto loader. There are some legitimate use cases of manually loading a php file, e.g loading the auto load
