Good post. The only way to fight against drug cartels is to deal with the demand side. As long as there is demand for an illegal product people will supply it. As long as there are illegal markets people will restort to using violence to r

Proper reverse path filtering would also work. The C&C servers should not be able to spoof the IP of the legitimate satellite internet user to reply to the eavsdropped packets. One day. https://tools.ietf.org/html/

It is the interface (small, touchscreen) that is new, along with the wireless network connectivity. Other than that a smartphone is most definitely a personal computer though. There are many, less keyboard/mouse bound tasks that peopl

In fairness we all have access to the tools. Understanding and implementing them right can be tough though.

I honestly don't think there is consumer demand TBH. The biggest driver of consumer demand for broadband speed is streaming video. Even 4k streams are only about 20-30Mbit/sec. So 200Mb would do numerous of these simultaneously

The problem is dumping all that data to disk, or encoding on the fly and doing so. HDMI caps are mostly kind of shitty quality. Look at the UHD BluRay releases (smurfs excluded.)

I'm not so sure. They now produce a ton of their own content which they may want to protect. That content is not broadcast with DVB, it's not distributed on BluRay. To that point if they can prevent there being a way to rip the ra

Yeah they seem to be moving to newer, platform based security/drm models across the board. For instance my HTPC has an Nvidia 1050ti card and can do UHD colour 4k output. I can play UHD test files just fine. But the Netflix app won

Seems to me that Whatsapp should be able to rate-limit these requests and work to secure the interface so only the legit website can actually pull the info? The initial website display comes from a QR code you can on your phone, which the w

Thanks... I had heard improvements were on the way, thought it was next release and not crestors. Good tip on disabling Windows own ssh server too, sounds like I need to revisit this stuff see can I get it working again!

You can use Conemu, ConsoleZ or a number of other console applications for Windows with it. As a network engineer it's almost useless to me, ping, traceroute, mtr etc don't work. Neither does ssh tunneling. No ssh server. Still u

Well it was also possible as most European companies had state-run telephone monopolies into the 1980s. And when they were privatised the government's were in a position to impose rules on the newly created private companies - namel

In most of Europe competition in last mile networks is enforced by law and ISPs don't have nearly the scope for all this nefarious stuff. If they block/throttle or charge premiums you can just go to one of their competitors. This

It would need to be like TOR - if you just encrypted then they'd see who you were talking to, just not what you're saying.

Phones are already damn powerful, and will get more so. Why should we all have to buy another completely separate computer if we want to use a mouse/keyboard/monitor, when we already have phones?

Spot on, these were the major challenges that always faced the idea. Interesting to see the latest Samsung phones doing the same thing, but running Android and having Samsung behind it that attempt is much more likely to bear fruit. Fair pl

In fairness it's handled quite well by Windows I feel, a lot of third party apps let it down. It's a bigger challenge on Windows than OSX. On OSX devs only have to target a small number of High DPI resolutions.

Came here to say this. Expect was and remains extremely powerful. I've been using it for 15 years to automate network configuration deployment. Now that automation is all the rage in the industry it gets dismissed, but I find it is oft

Em I think you are failing to distinguish between Irish Travellers (Gypsies, often called Pikeys in the UK,) and Roma. Not to say that elements within either group haven't been responsible for some of the things you mention, or that th

I think you might be a little alarmist. Anti-sensitism on the rise is no joke of course. Islamophobia is having a massive impact too. We are a long way away from the 1930s and 40s though, totally different time. Still we should be vigilant.
