Lots of commenters replying with 'actually some people want this', or 'actually I want this'. Two points on that. First, OP addresses this by noting that when mozilla asked the community what they wanted, the replies

In those cases the correct term is "denialist". Skeptics care about evidence for or against the thing, and there is plenty of evidence in favor of skepticism about AI, unlike about vaccines or evolution.

If you're interested in the specific thing that other people mean by that word, the original Cory Doctorow essay that coined it is well worth a read: https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/

That's also not what "enshittification" was coined to describe.

Those things can happen, sure, but GP is saying that the term "enshittification" was coined to describe a very specific kind of phenomenon about monopoly internet platforms and their pattern of first building dependency and market

I think it's disingenuous to characterize these solutions as "LLMs solving problems", given the dependence on a hefty secondary apparatus to choose optimal solutions from the LLM proposals. And an important point here is that

It would be different if I worked in chinese or hindi or something, or worked with other people who do. Also worth noting that even terminals that score badly on this benchmark handle most of the things you mention just fine (e.g. accented

Agree with other commenters that this seems like a bad idea. Why on earth should the release image contain all of the cruft of development?? Why on earth should it contain historical versions of all that cruft??

The distinctiveness of LLM language comes from overuse of specific words, not because it has a particularly sophisticated vocabulary. Some of the words it overuses may be considered sophisticated by some people, but that's not what mak

Part of it is the guilt-by-association with the other bad writing habits of LLMs, but I think a lot of it is just that LLMs genuinely overuse them, and that homogeneity is grating just like it's grating when you notice a text reuses a

The idea of TDD is that you should have the tests before you have the code. If your code is failing in real life before you have the tests, that's no longer TDD.

Yes, this is absolutely part of it, and I think an underappreciated harm of LLMs is the homogeneity. Even to the extent that their writing style is adequate, it is homogeneous in a way that quickly becomes grating when you encounter LLM-gen

I don't think this is true. The LLMs use this construction noticeably more frequently than normal people, and I too feel the annoyance when they do, but if you look around I think you'll find it's pretty common in many regist
