It reminds me a little bit of QBE (Query by example), but instead of saying what data you want, you say what schema you want.

You forget that there's a competitive market that affects the pricing of consoles. If a customer values a console for $1000 and therer are two consoles on the market that are almost identical, one costs $600, and the other one $900, th

I thought of this one from the Friends sitcom. Feels a bit more real than asking actual people, even though it's been written by comedy writers. https://youtu.be/1aX12xGM7GQ

I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better with some regulation regarding this. I'm not sure. But it kind of goes hand in hand with the whole repairability thing. And unrepairable devices have more externalities...

If I were pointing fingers, I would point more to React, NPM, webpack, and just the crazy world of frontend development in general. But yeah, a browser is almost like a second OS running on the machine. Only it's built at a higher leve

It also would be nice to be able to upgrade to 32 GB maybe few years into the future. Upgrading an older machine when needed is so much better than buying new ones all the time. I wish more HW would be built with upgradability/repairab

I like your comment, but I think Electron is only part of the problem. IMHO, the bigger part is that all these apps are built using JavaScript and all the SPA style frontend frameworks. Heavy Javascript-based UIs aren't slow because of

Strange to see R as dreaded... It's not a tool for everything, but for the right niche (data analysis), it seems like a very sensible choice. Could it be that it's something that non-programmers are forced to use if they want to d

Try looking at things with a growth mindset instead of fixed mindset (Google it if you want to know more about this topic). It doesn't sound like low IQ at all to me. Besides the already stated ADHD, it might also be an issue of motiva

I've read about NixOS here on HN which aims to do something similar. Does your approach with using docker heavily have some disadvantages you experienced? Just curious, it sounds interesting...

What's the debugging experience like? If some _hyperscript code I wrote doesn't do what I want it to do, what do I do? Is there some browser extension of some sorts or some IDE-like tool?

Ops usually understand infrastructure, and QA usually not so much. The overall mindset is a little bit different, i.e. QA tries hard to break it, and Ops tries hard to keep it running. And the required skills might also be different (distin

Isn't 1x supposed to be the average software engineer? If yes, then this doesn't align very much with my experience :-( Or is it supposed to be that many people are less-than-one-x and aspire to be 1x?

It seems like you're comparing the current situation to more like ~20 years ago than ~10 years ago. In 2011, both Rails and Django were well established and used heavily. And in 2011, not too many people cared about IE6 either (some di
