I do check my twitter account mostly with a mobile device. It's usually when I don't have anything useful to do, so I play around.

It's a good step forward. The web standards and especially their implementation in browsers and on websites are unlikely to catch up operating system and application development. Therefore the native app is likely to be able to provide some

I highly disagree. Native apps can provide way more better integration to your desktop and therefore improve the user experience. E.g. showing a consistent (growl) popup for tweets is not possible as far as i know from the web version. And

From the Skype's status update: "Our engineers are creating new ‘mega-supernodes’ as fast as they can, which should gradually return things to normal." So they can inject new supernodes in to the system and clients will discover'em graduall

I tend to disagree. Error handling exactly in such cases where you have to bring the network online from a complete halt or other catastrophe is at the very heart of the architecture of these systems. These scenarios should and are at the m

Well, even if we were to talk about this point, it actually might be. I have no knowledge of Skype architecture, so I'm totally guessing here. But, those unconnected Skype instances have to have some kind of directory of supernodes: either

That can be avoided by altering the logic by which supernodes are queried. Not all nodes must try all supernodes.

The hardest part is the UI. Should the data in storage expire? Should the client be notified when the form is submitted? Should the user be able to cancel the submitting? To answer all of those in a way that every user understands is not ea

I can't imagine why the regular route of learning would not work with every language: wet your appetite with tutorials and then do a small project with it to grasp it better.

I've felt that the Maps is generally way better due to it's availability as you and everybody else has it, you can embed it etc. It actually feels more integrated to my desktop... I mean my browser.

For Erlang and many other languages, plain Rake is good. For Java and some JVM based languages buildr ( http://buildr.apache.org/ ) provides a nice abstraction on top of Rake and also support for Maven repositories.

Jeff wrote about PHP, the language does not matter: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2008/05/php-sucks-but-it-do... I've never seen language choice as a big deal. It's just a tool among many others to get a product done.
