MS had an anti-trust suit against them for just bundling IE with Windows. I would love to see a general rule that it is against anti trust rules to favour your own client.

Correct but that doesn’t mean that the experience can’t be shared and talked about later. Which is my definition of a shared experience.

Does it? I mean if you are watching something with friends then you can watch it with them even if they are not physically present (assuming all you friends are rich teckies).

Totally agreed on social media and endless youtube, but in the case of a medical need you can lock the phone down with screen time locks.

Not OP. Here is evidence for screen time being dose dependent after more than 1 hour, but it is old so none of the kids in that study had grown up with smartphones https://www.researchgate.net/publication/283687526_Dose

That seems fine. Nothing wrong with social networks with you friends. Everything wrong with for profit social networks with algorithms designed to suck you in and share the worst of humanity.

Its a screaming red flag that the people who are most opposed to kids being on smart phones are the tech people. As a potential compromise, an Apple Watch with celular means they can still write to their friends and family, get directions e

The best sub reddits are heavily modded, but Usenets support for moderation is very small, which means it will only be great if you can preselect by limiting who gets access to the groups.

I am pretty sure you can get a deal with NordVPN. Just search youtube for someone you follow Nordvpn and sponsor.

Oh, I don't disagree that it is a bad fit for this particular use case (except if your company hires a lot of seasonal data-enty WFH workers).

Vs code remote is fantastic. It’s as good as local development on vs code. Unfortunately vs code has way too many things missing compared to JetBrains.

Agree on the cloud prices, though there are use cases for very abrupt scaling. Btw azure has a tco calculator so you can see what assumptions you have to make for the cloud to come out ahead.

The use case for this would be a cheap device that’s thin and light and has excellent battery life hooked up to a cloud machine that is very powerful. It could also be used to do wfh without having to bring your company laptop or mix your p

Should have focused on GPG signatures of packages instead. It doesn't matter who uploads, it matters what is uploaded.

Sure. But how much would Reddis benefit from the extra cores? By adding threads support it would need to add support for locks and then that might make it slower. Besides, Reddis isn't usually the slow part of what you are doing. It mi

Stop downvoting OP because you don't remember PCs before 2000/XP. Those either didn't have different users or, in the case of windows 95 and 98, they were essentially pointless. For the record: I don't remember my family

I strongly disagree Netflix isn’t a comparable alternative as it enables me to watch moving pictures to occupy my time. Worse YouTube gets their movies for free. I understand that they are in a bind. Not my problem, however.
