I mean if the goal is to humanize and make AIs more relatable, then fine. If it had stopped the coding task to browse hackernews, I would have to start to march for AI rights.

If we do face a wave of disaster, it will be because the government has prevented sufficient building of powerplants.

By definition a dogwhistle appears to not mean anything specific to anyone but the target group. So even human moderators can't moderate it.

Its not really that we know better. We known more and we know there is more of a trade of than was assumed then. But to know better would mean we would have done anything different back then. If the choice is a silent spring (hyperpole, but

Dane here. We don't write things in cursive. Sure we were thought cursive in school (my only remedial class! What a waste of time), but we write on computers. Very occasionally we might need to write up a sign or something. I did nearl

Simple: you still write an essay and you may use ai to do so. Then you throw the essay out and go and talk with the teacher about it. If you can answer intelligently it’s because you know the stuff and if not then you don’t.

Seems more to be the case that the internet will have to route around Italy.

Sorry, but under no circumstances should an ISP router auto route internal computers from the network. Thats just going to expose so many internal services, most consumers wouldn't even know they were running in the first place. If we

The smartphone is fine. It’s the apps that suck, and most of all it’s advertising.

I have long thought that you should resist growth in people at all costs - there were famously a very small number of people working at Instagram when it was acquired.

It does nothing good or useful, but Cuba is a communist country. Such a country will always have shortages, and those will continue to get worse.

Okay, I will bite. Its trained on too many shallow podcasts. Go compare any of NotebookLM podcast with an episode of Hardcore History. The latter goes into much more depth (even when you account of it being much longer).

I can't believe that to retrieve a container today, you still need to present the original document from the shipper. Surely, a simple database record at the port authorities office should suffice. Or a series of digitally signed trans

I mean the alternative isn’t that you are selling it on the black market, it’s that you expose the issue in a blog post and the first time google knows is because one of their employees see the post here on hacker news. You are essentially

I cancelled through the “sound very angry and know what charge back means” when I wrote to their customer service. That was years ago. I would likely resub when I can do so through Apple Store.

I am not sure I would say it was "pretty obvious", but it is certainly likely. Regardless I don't see why sigmoid10 was downvoted.

How do you square your idea that genai sucks with the fact that people are paying and using it, and not just for seo spam?

Of the items you listed, I only care about referential integrity (or rather, I don't want things to be wrong). Unless we are adding millions of rows on a daily basis, microoptimizations don't make a meaningful impact. Of all the o

In a world where email costs ten cents to send (per receiver) email addresses need not be private. In our world? They kinda need to for sanity.

I mean ditch SAML. We use Keycloak as a SAML to OpenId translator, essentially, so if we could get JWT tokens from our IdPs directly, we wouldn't need Keycloak.

I have setup Keycloak a bunch of times. I don't know if I would say it is a good solution (that would be ditching SAML), but it doesn't require you to pay outrages fees.
