So how is this going to work? Pick the highest salary found in the area and add X, where X is a little? I never found the numbers from sites such as 'salary.com' or 'glassdoor' to be very reliable as it always 'depends'.

I think it is interesting you point the parent out for not lining up with reality. Can you elaborate on how the benchmarks in the above posts are a more realistic way to reason about the performance than the experience of the language used

Its good to hear about the advantages of being a polyglot programmer, but how about the disadvantages? I think the number of recruiters requiring X years of experience in Y still outnumber the ones who can recognize the value of a polyglot

I remember the last HN thread about Interview street they promised more 'real world' problems, instead they added more euler style algorithm quizes. I guess the companies have achieved good results basing hiring decisions on these algorithm

There are a couple of reasons why other startups are not using asp.net. 1) The opensource community for .net is quite limited compared to other languages/frameworks 2) Some people have an aversion for anything from MS (this affects hiring)

You can survive with English in Amsterdam and the Netherlands as well. Children learn english from the age of 9-10, TV programs are typically not dubbed so the odds are that you can have conversations in English with everyone you encounter.
